The Unthinkable Consequences of an Iran-Israel Nuclear Exchange
Daniel Pipes Blog ^ | 4/19/08 | Daniel Pipes

Posted on 04/21/2008 10:09:46 PM PDT by MeanFreePath

Anthony Cordesman, a strategist at the Washington-based Center for Strategic and International Studies, has estimated the consequences if Tehran gets the bomb and a nuclear exchange with Israel ensues. He expects, writes Martin Walker of United Press International,

"some 16 million to 28 million Iranians dead within 21 days, and between 200,000 and 800,000 Israelis dead within the same time frame. The total of deaths beyond 21 days could rise very much higher, depending on civil defense and public health facilities, where Israel has a major advantage..."

Obviously it's not unthinkable. However, I think his assumption that all Iranian warheads will be small is optimistic. Further, I doubt Israel would attack the entire region in response to an Iranian strike.

Nuclear weapons are going to end up exploding here as well, if we allow the world to further destabilize. Iran and Syria should be controlled and soon.

That also doesn’t count in the fact that the US would also use nuclear weapons on Iran and Pakistan, the first time such weapons have been used by us since WWII.

Possibly. As an ardent secular Israel-supporter, I’m hoping I’m on the right side.

Nuclear war is unthinkable. If you just stick your head in the sand, it will never happen. And to be extra safe, elect a democrat.

Yes you could be right.

I am wondering if such a happening occurred and Obama was our president would America be the Lamb or the Beast?

Give these radical Muslims atomic weapons and they will, even though it most certainly means their own destruction, feel obligated to use them at some point.

At the very next provocation, the very next pretext, the tanks should be rolling toward Tehran. BEFORE they get nukes.

“if we allow the world to further destabilize.”

Sometimes I wonder if we have the ability and the stomach to prevent that from happening.

I totally agree with you. The scenario described by the prophet Ezekiel (Chapter 38 & 39) is coming together with complete accuracy.

One interesting piece of the puzzle came together just this week when Putin went to Libya (one of the Ezekiel countries) to rebuild ties with them.

But it’s all TRUE! Read Jonathan Schell’s Fate of the Earth one day. I did in the mid 80’s, and he was a scientist, maybe nuclear one at that. It’s scary sobering to say the least. See, heretofore, we had major world powers who had common sense and understood the principle of “mutually assured destruction” as an effective deterrent. Not so now, this is a whole new set of rules.

People (dems/libs) - you need to GET it!!! We’re dealing with a threat like no other and it’s growing rapidly - warped, suicidal, fanatical lunatics on a mission of mass destruction. Part of me thinks they don’t have a real grasp on the colossal consequences of a hair-trigger, hot-headed move, but the other part thinks they don’t care because it will hasten “prophecy fulfillment, the return of the 12th Imam and necessary destruction of all infidels in order for the divine peace of Islam to reign supreme in a perfect new world.”

WHEN will we naive, complacent, uninformed, short-memoried Americans STOP judging all others by ourselves? We should have listened to Hitler, and we damned sure better to listen to Bin Laden etal when they say “we love death as you love life”.

Lovely - remember the last shots in Dr. Strangelove? Not a Hollywood movie, guys. There’ll be no critics around for reviews, let alone Oscars.

maybe? would? That’s what I was saying - Islamic extremists view their “destruction” as Stairway to Heaven, if you will, and they are driven to aggressively pursue it. So diametrically opposed to our western, Christian mentality.

Okay, so this is the bottom line to all my previous postings - please, let’s cut through all the philosophical, rhetorical layers of who’s conservative enough, most perfectly aligned in voting , acceptable stance on all our issues, etc. In this election, McCain is our only hope (vs. BHO or HRC) of giving this horrific threat top priority. Otherwise, the rest will be non-issues in an instant. We must remember the old adage about fighting alligators but first draining the swamp. Hence my tagline.

I think this is a sure reality, it is just a matter of time. It is not an if it is a when!
Personally I feel it will be soon, their hate for Israel and for us grows stronger with each passing day.

note in that prophecy that IRAQ is NOT among the nations that will attack Israel with Gog & Magog.

And for all the years that Saddam was harassing Israel most people thought he was leader or partner in that attack but he's not. A very interesting note on how Biblical prophecy really can be!!
