Evolution gave the atheists the intellectual cover they need to justify their religion.

But why do they have to be so arrogant? Defense mechanism?

I am certainly no mental health professional or even a great student of the mind. But if I accept that there is a an intelligent creator who is the not the higher power but the highest power then I might ask why He created anything in the first place, then has he kept His purposes secret, then if not where can I find the answers, then what part do I play in God's purposes, what does He expect, demand of me?
If one has an ego fueled by worldly success then maybe one would prefer an atheistic philosophy that avoids all these hard question.
Just my thoughts.
