St George is still venerated in a large number of places, by followers of particular occupations and sufferers from certain diseases. George is the patron saint of Aragon, Catalonia, Georgia, Lithuania, Palestine, Portugal, Germany and Greece; and of Moscow, Istanbul, Genoa and Venice (second to St Mark). He is patron of soldiers, cavalry and chivalry; of farmers and field workers, Boy Scouts and butchers; of horses, riders and saddlers; and of sufferers from leprosy, plague and syphilis. He is particularly the patron saint of archers, which gives special point to these famous lines from Shakespeare's Henry V, Act 3, Scene 1, l. 31:
'I see you stand like greyhounds in the slips,
Straining upon the start. The game's afoot:
Follow your spirit; and, upon this charge
Cry God for Harry, England and St George!'.
Indirectly, the spirit of George the soldier saint played a part in modern English history when Sir Laurence Olivier's film of Henry V was issued in 1944 as an encouragement to our armies fighting for the liberation of France.

Saint George and the Dragon

After victory at Agincourt, St George's Day was ordered to be observed with the same dignity as Christmas Day - but it was only at Euro 96 that England fans adopted the flag of St George

By George, it's time to raise the flag! - Telegraph

  • "The patron saint of England should be rebranded and St George's Day should become a national day to celebrate the tradition of dissent," says a report in the Church of England newspaper. "Licensees are asked to ring their bell at 10.45pm on April 23 and ask customers to raise their glasses in a grand toast to St George," reports the Morning Advertiser.

The enthusiasm for Englishmen to proclaim St George's Day a national holiday is building. A ground swell of patriotism is returning after years of paying no heed to our avenging paragon while tolerating our Celtic neighbours' over-enthusiasm for nailing up griffins, wearing tartan and the lauding of little green men.

Here are the illuminating and oftentimes essential comments made by posters to the Daily Mail up to this time....these at least are the ones that were approved by the Daily Mail censors:

Good job it wasn't a MUSLIM march. If it had been they couldn't have banned it because of racism.

- Donald A Merritt, Borehamwood Herts

The fact that the proposed parade was cancelled is proof that the powers that be realise that there are Muslim ghettos in this country.

- James, London, UK

Disgusting that we cannot walk in safety in our own country in certain areas because we're scared of the Muslims that live there.

- Frank, England

Get the racist immigrants out of our country NOW!

- Heather Savage, UK

The politically correct police once again cause more problems than they solve. By banning this parade they have likely caused more tension and likelihood of problems than had it been allowed to proceed.

It must be part of a policeman's training now, 'How to cause more problems than to resolve them'.

- Pip Waller, Scarborough North Yorkshire

Yet another example of the indigenous communities of this country being stifled, and feeling ashamed to be English. This government are really pushing us to the brink - come the civil war!

- Tony, Luton

This is England, or have these people forgotten. I am sick of being victimised in my own country.

- Karen, West Midlands

When did Britain stop being British?

- Nick Martin, UK

It appears that the Police are declaring "no go " zones. Funny how it's always a British Christian event that gets cancelled. If they tried to cancel a Muslim festival on whatever grounds, there would be no end of trouble. Frankly, I think the Police have proved to be pathetic on this one.

- Mel Hodkinson, st lucia

I don't suppose people like Quassim Khan have a secret agenda. It will be interesting to see his thoughts on Diwali or ramadan in the coming months, given the reasons they should be banned too.

- Jim, London

This is stupid. It is right for the parade to take place on the original route and it is right that the police are there to ensure that it takes place peacefully. Health & Safety - the police should be supporting Queen, St.George and England not the PC brigade.

- Tony, Granada, Spain

Immigrants are dictating to the English once again about what they can do in their country. Do you think you could tell the Japanese or Chinese or anyone else, that they could not celebrate their special day and show their patriotism, because it somehow may 'offend' newcomers?

- Charlotte Browning, Bolton, England

I wonder how many of the city overlords and police are already Muslims?

The Muslims are conquering because the British authorities are allowing them that luxury. Where will England be in 50 years? If there are not race riots now, there either will be in the future or Britain will become a Muslim outpost. The authorities have got to regain their sturdy British backbones and get the newcomers to shape up or ship out.
Multiculturalism was formed in the crucible of guilt over the colonial era, but that’s over. Non-western nations are not vastly superior to western ones. Evil exists in the world. It always has and it always will. Western nations colonized much of the third world and produced much suffering; China is colonizing Tibet and producing much suffering; the Japanese did all kinds of horrible things in China during World War II. The list of conquest goes on and on (and it always will). We in the West do not need to repent to the point that we give our civilizations away.

Sooooo,... an English Holiday Parade, St. George's Day, is canceled because it might cause rioting and offend the “Asian” community in England.

It's England not the 7th Century TURD-WORLD Mohammedan land that you “Asians” came from!

Don't like it?

Well then,.. CLEAR OFF! The WHOLE LOT of Ya!

Talking points for British articles:

1- It's not a RACE problem. Race has nothing to do with it.

2- They are not ASIANS, they are MUSLIMS. Get it straight.

3- Not all Britons who resist are THUGS. Most are patriots.

4- I expect to see RAMADAN celebrations cancelled this year.

Between the EU severely restricting bagpipe playing and the cancellation of this historical parade, the cultural heritage of the UK is firmly on it’s way towards total erasure.

When multi-culturalism hits the brick wall of multi-barbarism.

Properly, it should have said “Saint George’s Day Parade In Muslim Ghetto Cancelled Due To Local Savagery”.

been busy stoat so just seen this.

So after taking a few deep breaths I can now be sort of normal in my post, if normal is the word

Anyway I am not surprised at all, I have said many times places like Bradford, Burnley, Leeds, Glodwick Oldham etc have many Muslim enclaves.
Yes I remember those riots well and that was the final straw for me

Few white lads, English lads, went for a drink in Bradford , well in a certain area, now the reason they did was because Pakistani muslims around the country had been beating up many English lads , so a small group of say about 20 went for a drink there to say we are not scared, this is our country and you can't do nothing about it

well the Pakistani Muslims got all wound up and were going mad
Anyway the police come and the lads leave after a bit, but wait this is not the end

You see about 500 Pakistani muslims grouped together and for a few days rioted, (google those riots on you tube, they were really mad etc)
Anyway BBC crew asked the pakistani muslims how they felt, of course the BBC , the guardian newspaper twisted it as that those English lads had no right to drink there

Anyway 5 or 6 pakistani muslims told the BBC crew that , I'll try and do it for word for word

those English have no right to be here, they don't belong here this is our place

Now I am sitting at home back then and thought , hey hang on, they don't have a right, er they are English in England going to an English pub, THEY HAVE EVERY RIGHT i SHOUTED AT THE TELLY(tv)

Those riots woke many people up in England and while many of the media like the BBC etc try to blindfold the English public they are not winning doing so
more and more people are fed up, look at record levels of emmigration from England
I guarantee American opened her doors to England you would have at least one million people wanting to come here.

I just watched on the HD channel of direct tv a hour long clip about the coast of England
It was beautiful, the little fishing villages, the country side, the history it showed the south coast from Land end to Dover by helicopter

My wife who is Amercian turned to me , saw me sad and said it is such a shame tht maybe one day because of immigration England will be changed forever

How do we know that places like Stonehenge will still stand, castle still stand, Westminster Abby , st Paul cathedral, once and if Pakistani muslims take over

yes it might sound far out but think
a nd now look at Kosovo, Lebanon , even the Buddhist statues in Afghanistan which were blown apart by radical Muslims.

ST GEORGE’S PARADE SCRAPPED… IN CASE IT UPSETS MUSLIMS

By Steve Hughes

A MARCH to celebrate St George’s Day has been axed – because the authorities fear it could spark race riots.

About 1,500 children were due to take part in a parade to commemorate the patron saint of England on Wednesday.

But council bosses in Bradford, West Yorks, have ditched the event over concerns it could upset the Asian community, many of them Muslim.

They feared a repeat of riots that hit the city in 2001, when an Asian man was stabbed by National Front supporters and 300 police were injured. Officials suggested making the route shorter to avoid areas where the riots took place.

But the Rev Tony Tooby, chairman of governors at St Philips Primary School, said: “We wanted the route to include where the riots took place to educate our young people.

“But the police and council proposed another route which was ridiculously short.

“The march would have been over before it began.

“Unfortunately, there’s a fear someone may have used it to cause violence.

“The day seems to have been taken off us because of fear of thugs.” Tory MP Philip Davies, 36, added: “This was a prime opportunity to promote integration in a celebration of being British.

“The police and council – whether it’s through political correctness or whatever – have failed miserably. Frankly, it’s pathetic.”

About 10,000 people were expected to line the streets.

But council leader Kris Hopkins, 44, said: “The council has not banned the St George’s Day parade.

“Given the involvement of 1,500 children, including six and seven-year-olds, we suggested a slightly safer route.

“We have got a responsibility to look after our children.”

Ladbrokes have cut the odds of St George’s Day being made a Bank Holiday after a flurry of bets by patriotic punters.
