I really don’t understand why people do this. If they have no morals, do not follow the church’s teachings, why is it important to them to take Communion? They can’t believe it’s ok in their heart, so it must be to stick it to the church and be seen doing it - like screw the rules, I make my own.

No church should deny ANYONE communion. That is between each of us sinners and God. Who are they to judge us on our morals and our inner relationship with our Lord.
Any Catholic that gives enough money to the church can do just about what they want. Ask Ted Kennedy the resident swimmer of the senate.
The commandment ‘Thou shalt not take the Lord’s name in Vain’ does not refer to profanity, aka GD, but literally using Christianity as a vanity/photo-op, that is glomming something you don’t really believe in, but need the cred from.
