To be funny on a post, I said that the next commodity to be taxed(banned) was going to be bottled water.

Low and behold King Richie (chicago mayor), did just that started taxing bottled water.
Imagine his surprise (LOL) when bottled water purchases went down in Chicago.
And collar counties/towns saw a marked uptick in bottled water sales.

Stupid Libs never learn.
King Richie should have just banned bottled water rather than trying to make buck off taxes.

I hope in my live time I see the demise of liberalism, ahhh but what a dream.

Also something my dad told me when I was young’un.
You cannot legislate morality.
It has taken many years to understand his statement.

I am sometimes slow.
LOL

“Your weight and BMI are outside regulations”

True life: as an Army reservist, I have to take the physical fitness test and weigh in and get taped every six months. Flunk either one and you’re `flagged’: no schools, no promotions, no nothing until you show progess at monthly weigh in. Yes, I volunteered. But viewed sociologically, all this is part of an organizational culture.

Oh, I forgot to add, random 100% urinalysis for the entire unit annually. Targeting individual obvious dopers is `unfair’. Another part of the culture.

Sort of like the Brits and their acceptance of ubiquitous surveillance cameras. Nanny-state takes many forms.

Notice how the health minister carefully avoided saying anything about taking away beer and alcohol from her fellow Australians.

The company I work for mandates physical exams as a condition of employment. Blood pressure’s too high, range of motion too limited, etc - no job offer. Now, while I could see that making sense out on the production floor, why does a desk jockey need to take a ‘lift test’? Paper files aren’t that heavy.

I have mixed feelings about all of this stuff. If a company has to pay for your insurance, then they do have a vested interest in your health. This is the sad reality of how things are going today.

However, what comes to mind is the very unhealthy habits of Winston Churchill and how that man truly was instrumental in the outcome of WWII. Just because someone is “healthy” doesn’t mean he is smart or has some other necessary skills.

The only thing I know is I’m really thankful I don’t have to work around smokers anymore. Smoking was allowed in the workplace for years when I first started working. I think my company outlawed it sometime around 1987 and I began working in 1975.

I can see that as a valid point, but there are some companies who will take it further than they need to.

>>The only thing I know is I’m really thankful I don’t have to work around smokers anymore.<<

What irritates me is that they’re always taking (hourly) smoke breaks in addition to their other breaks. If I sat at my desk and stared at the ceiling for 10 minutes straight every hour, I’d probably get in trouble for wasting time.

LOL...a cousin of mine says that they have croquet and ‘cup stacking’ in their PE classes now. Lacrosse, football, dodgeball were all banished.

“Paper files aren’t that heavy”

To get deployed or just stay in the reserves I now will have to go before a medical review board ‘cause they say I’m type 2 diabetic (BTW, that’s purest bullcorn!!). But at least I will be evaluated in my current MOS of JAG office manager. Not much heavy lifting there, either.

I’m with on opposing nanny state tyranny, but I’m too socially conservative to be a libertarian..

The time has already passed when it became necessary for you to choose.

Go ahead and try to ban tobacco. I beg you.

I would love to see the grant junkies, paid political activists have to go out and get a real job instead of living of the Gubmint tit.

It’ll never happen. It’s a great racket.
