Earthquake rattles Tri-State
An earthquake measuring magnitude 5.4 with an epicenter in Southeastern Illinois rattled the Tri-State in the early morning hours Friday.
The shaking, which started at about 4:35 a.m. CDT, lasted about 10 seconds.
A reporter at the Associated Press building in downtown Indianapolis reported feeling the earthquake as well. Scott Rosenburgh, a former Courier & Press advertising manager now working in a suburb northwest of Chicago, said the quake woke him there. No damage has been reported to police dispatch yet. More information will be posted as it becomes available.
Felt the earthquake here in Advance, Missouri.
That has to be the New Madrid fault line area.
Was that what that was? I thought it was someone stomping through the house...
Woke me up here in St. Matthews, Louisville...
I heard on the 6 oclock local news it was felt in upper east Tennessee
My bed felt like it was on wheels, sure woke me up. I could hear a low rumble too.
I’m in Cincinnati. I felt it around 5:30. There was a rumbling like thunder, and the house began to vibrate for about 30 seconds to a minute. I put the news on immediately after my mom speculated it was an earthquake. There was nothing, so I switched to a tv show. I put the news on at 6:00 where they had it as breaking news. They are interviewing people from around the tri-state who felt it and said the phone lines are jammed. There is damage in our area, but they think there might be some closer to the center in eastern Illinois. It was a 5.4 at the epicenter. They said this is the anniversary of a large earthquake that hit San Francisco in 1906. It was over an eight on the scale.
20 Miles north of Milwaukee, felt nothing.
