The war in Iraq has become "a major debacle" and the outcome "is in doubt" despite improvements in security from the buildup in U.S. forces, according to a highly critical study published Thursday by the Pentagon's premier military educational institute.

If you’ve really been here since 1998, and you haven’t learned to dissect a news report like this, and not take it at face value, you haven’t been paying attention.

The report was written by one guy, Collins.

Essentially, it’s one guy’s opinion. As far as a “major debacle” and a possible “can’t win,” all you have to do is look at history to see if it qualifies as the first, and look at the current trends to see if it qualifies as the second. My answer is it doesn’t qualify as either. And I never even worked at the Pentagon!

I don’t like the lecture at the end, with the Churchill quote. It smacks of the same sanctimony and prissy moralizing we get from Tim Robbins and his bunch.

I’ll stick with Petraeus and Odierno’s opinions.

Unfortunately this thread brings out the best and worst of people that post at Free Republic.

The best are people that stand by our country, our troops mission in Iraq and our Commander in Chief as we fight the War on Terrorism and remain vigilant here at home against another attack.

The worst are the sheep that have been easily mislead by the propaganda of the left-wing useful idiots in the mainstream media that in the past were proud to bring America to its knees during the Vietnam War.

Remember these useful idiots are same group that still have a hair across their ass because environmental Al lost the 2000 election.

This is the same group that cant understand that the U.N. had 18 separate resolution that Saddam violated but still blames America for taking action.

This is the same group believes the 9/11 Commission when Jamie Gorelick was a Chairwoman even though she created the famous "Information Wall."

Yes this is also the same group that invented Political Correctness at Berkeley in order to control any American thought that doesn't fit with their liberal agenda. (Ends justify the means at any cost for liberalism & socialism)

A great man that just left us said it best

"Political Correctness, what does it mean? It means that telling us what to think has evolved into telling us what to say, so telling us what to do can’t be far behind. Before you claim to be a champion of free thought, tell me: Why did political correctness originate on American campuses? And why do you continue to tolerate it? Why do you, who’re supposed to debate ideas, surrender to suppression? Lets be honest who thinks professors can say what they really believe? It scares me to death, and should scare you too, that the superstition of political correctness rules the halls of reason." Charlton Hestons speech at Harvard Law School (Winning The Culture War)

As conservatives our job is to make sure any over abundance of excessive estrogen levels that destroyed the Democrat party turning it it into the spineless feeling without thinking reactive but not proactive party doesn't spread like a venereal disease across this nation.

There is a reason why so many foreigners come to America wanting to be free. Its to bad liberals want to return to them what they had left.

That’s why I suggested that critics here should read the report before “sharing” their vast knowledge with the rest of us.

Now I’d like to see Lancey Howard offer some evidence to justify his accusation that Collins has an association with the Democratic Party.

But then again, perhaps if Lancey actually read the report he wouldn’t be so eager to consign its author to the “party of appeasement”, considering that Collin’s refers to the war as a “must win”, and considering that Collin’s association was not with the Democratic Party but rather with Douglas Feith, one of the architects of planning the war.

That’s a nice long post, opaque but obtuse.

I assume you include yourself in the first group, the Best People. But I’m not sure all of whom you intend to consign to your sheep group. But thanks for the ping.

I happen to know 2 people that teach at the National Defense University.

The next time I speak with them I will get the full scoop on Dr. Collins.

I can tell you already they don't approve of such language in their reports mainly because they feel our troops royally have been given the shaft by the MSM & Democrats constant barrage of disinformation.

They're careful not to provide any information to the public that would have the appearance of helping the left-wing cheerleaders for failure with their pessimism about the war in Iraq.
