Rock superstar Bruce Springsteen on Wednesday endorsed Democratic Senator Barack Obama for US president, saying he stands "head and shoulders above the rest."
In a message posted on his Web site, the musician and songwriter known as the Boss said the Illinois senator has "the depth, the reflectiveness and the resilience" to be the next US president.
"Like most of you, I've been following the campaign and I have now seen and heard enough to know where I stand. Senator Obama, in my view, is head and shoulders above the rest," he wrote.
Many of Springsteen's rousing rock anthems and haunting ballads celebrate working class Americans. His endorsement in the November presidential election comes as Obama fends off charges he is out of touch with working class voters.
The Obama campaign welcomed the endorsement. The America of Springsteen's songs - with its hardworking people and big dreams - is "a story I know and a vision I share for our future, and that's why I'm so honoured to have his support in this journey," Obama said in a statement.

I'm still waiting for other washed up has-beens to make their endorsements before I decide. Vanilla Ice, MC Hammer, Joan Baez, Sinead Oconnor, etc etc

I love when these celebrities who have made a boatload of cash from the “common man” try to compare themselves to them.

When was Springsteen’s last hit song? 1984 or 1985?

Bruce knows that voting for Obama is the same thing as marching arm-in-arm with Dr. Martin Luther King through the streets of Selma, Alabama during the summer of 1965 while surrounded by hundreds of Grand Dragons of the KKK.
It's something he will tell his grandchildren about, as if it were something heroic.

Lord knows he’s old enough to have several of those.

I rocked to Springsteen in my youth, sure. Does his talent as a rocker give him any superior political acumen? I don't think so.
