In a widely splintered decision, the Supreme Court cleared the way for executions to resume across the country, concluding that the most common method of lethal injection does not violate the Constitution.

I've never understood the argument that death by lethal injection was "cruel". You can pump anethetics into a person so that a surgeon can slice him up, remove and replace organs and stitch him up and he won't feel a thing until he wakes up. Injecting drugs that stop the heart seems minor compared to that.

Gov Eyebrows (Kaine, VA) is going to be so disappointed; he was using this SCOTUS challenge to hold off executions in the Old Dominion.

According to Fox News, Chief Justice Roberts wrote the majority opinion. I’m guessing that Ginsberg was one of the two No’s, my guess is that Stevens was the other one.

widely splintered The decision was 7-2. How is that "widely splintered"?

My first guess was Ginsberg and Breyer. Thank you Bill Clinton. Thank you Ross Perot.

In other words, the libs on the Court voted No.

7-2 decison. CJ Roberts joined by Alito and Kennedy. Scalia and Thomas each concurring. Stevens and Breyer concurred. Souter and Ginsburg dissented.

I should say that they concurred in the judgment, not the opinion of Roberts.

Souter was Bush’s biggest mistake. He’s basically turned into another Brennan.
