Is Bush pulling a "Bill Clinton" here? Bill Clinton imposed strict cyanide rules just as he left office in order to create political and economic hardship for the Bush administration. Now it looks like Bush may be planning to leave his own successor an even bigger political and economic hardship.

He’s doing it to give McCain cover to be the “Climate Change Candidate”. All that matters to these guys is that a republican wins in November, and the country be damned.

Hes doing it to give McCain cover to be the Climate Change Candidate. All that matters to these guys is that a republican wins in November, and the country be damned. Well since all 3 current candidates are currently talking green and every damn commercial on television brags about being green, it's clear that America is stuck in a green fantasy right now. Sometimes the best way to show people they are wrong, is to let them have a taste of what they think they want. In the long run, it might actually be better for the country to experience a little pain to clear their vision.

In a significant shift on global warming, President Bush will propose stopping growthFirst , I understand the Planet has been cooling for the last ten years. Secondly, Bush does not put his trust in YHvH or "Jesus"

Could be. McCain’s election could temper this action.

This will be a catastrophic blow to our economy. How can we compete against China, India and many other countries that are unrestrained polluters? Bush has worked against our country is so many ways that I feel dirty for having voted for him [yes, I know the alternative was far worse].

What on earth makes you believe that? As recently as 2 or 3 weeks ago McCain had a global warming speech that Bush basically parroted.

This will be a catastrophic blow to our economy. How can we compete against China, India and many other countries that are unrestrained polluters? That may not be true if supplies remain limited, particularly oil. High energy prices can hamstring an economy (look at how the current high prices are causing across-the-board inflation). If the U.S. commits to emissions reductions, the power companies will be forced to underwrite a lot of conservation technologies that will in the long-term strengthen our economy.

I actually think these actions are quite prudent, given what we know. Actually, the lefties will be screaming that these things are not nearly enough. Oh well, you can’t make everyone happy, and sometimes you can’t make ANYONE happy...
