An Australian criminal who was so nervous during a hold-up that he was physically sick has been incriminated by his own vomit.
Police took DNA from the pool of sick and matched it to Ahmed Habib Jalloul, 20.
He was found guilty of the aggravated robbery of a post office in Adelaide, South Australia.
An Adelaide court was told that Jalloul vomited "out of fear" during the raid on the post office last April.
He fled the scene in a stolen car with two accomplices and £1,730 in cash.
Police conducted forensic analysis of the vomit and matched it with Jalloul's DNA.
A witness also placed him at the scene.
During evidence Jalloul said he did not know that his accomplice in the crime was carrying a gun.
When the man brandished the firearm inside the post office and demanded cash from the staff, Jalloul froze in terror.
"Although you wanted to pull out you felt obliged to go through with the robbery," Judge Geoffrey Muecke said in sentencing remarks.
He sentenced Jalloul to three and a half years in prison, with a non-parole period of one year and four months.
A police officer involved in the case, Col Phillips, said being convicted by vomit was unusual but not unprecedented.
"These days we use hair, blood, cigarette butts, spit, semen, everything to place someone at a crime scene," he said.
The gunman and getaway driver in the hold-up remain at large.
Everyone gets a haircut. Some people discard cigarette butts in ashtrays at building entrances or even on the ground ther.
That's lot of "evidence" that can be "left behind" for a criminal who wants to muddle a crime scene.
Achmed Habib Jalloul!
Just another local man, down on his luck.
Good time for sharia law, off with abdul’s hand.
