FRANKFORT, Ky. -- Republican Rep. Geoff Davis apologizing to Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama on Monday after referring to him as "that boy."
Addressing a Republican gathering Saturday night, the Kentucky lawmaker said, "That boy's finger does not need to be on the button." Davis was talking about political and national security issues at an annual GOP dinner.
Davis' campaign said it sent a letter to Obama apologizing for the remark, which was widely reported on blogs and newspaper Web sites, including the Lexington Herald-Leader.
"My poor choice of words is regrettable, and was in no way meant to impugn you or your integrity," Davis wrote in the letter delivered to Obama's Washington office Monday afternoon. "I offer my sincere apology to you and ask for your forgiveness."
Earlier, Obama campaign spokesman Bill Burton said, "It's hard to tell what is more outrageous - Representative Davis' condescending and personal attack, or his absurd and offensive claim that Barack Obama is not prepared to defend America."
The letter was released by Davis campaign manager, Jeremy Hughes.
Davis, who represents Kentucky's 4th Congressional District, has two Republican challengers in the GOP primary May 20. The winner will face Democrat Michael Kelley, a northern Kentucky physician.
Big deal.
Boybama?
Can I say that?
If a “democrat” called Obamie “biy, the media would have played up sooooo “cutesy”.
How horrible that he used the term “boy.” Better he would have said “God Damn America,” or “typical white person.”
Whiney sniveling dems at it again. Davis is 49/50. “Boy” is much more generous that what O’bama could legitimately be called.
The Obama campaign is trying to change the subject. I’d rather talk about how SnObama insulted small town voters to his elitist ultra-wealthy donors in San Fran.
I checked and Davis is only a year older than I am. Just a few years older than Obama so he can’t say he refers to much younger men by that term. In any case it was such a simple comment it is ridiculous to blow it out of proportion like this but of course to the left this is nothing new. Davis went overboard too with his apology.
Meanwhile Obama hasn’t been forced to apologize for any of his outrages. Nor has Mrs Obama.
He should have clarified that it was an attack on Obama’s inexperience and repeated that he had no business with his finger near the button.
Republicans seem to be incapable of framing a discussion.
Me, too. That was my vision.
a) a moron
b) a racist
c) a racist moron (inasmuch as that isn't redundant)
“Boy” is a loaded term when used on a 46 year old black man whom Davis is only a couple years older than.
In Malcolm X's autobiography he recalled how a old black man in his 60’s working on a train was called by any white person “boy”. It is a demeaning and racist term when used on an adult black man and it is indefensible.
Kentucky deserves better representation, and the GOP needs this idiot's comments like a hole in the foot. He needs to get gone, for being stupid if not for being a racist.
The fact that Rep. Davis revealed his own bungling incompetence while trying to speak about Obama’s incompetence is just too ironic for words.
“I say, I say, that boy is about as sharp as a bag of wet moss.” Foghorn Leghorn about Rep. Davis
When you live among them you experience it firsthand.
THAT is how one apologizes. Not an Obama "if you were offended" type apology.
But the guy could have just said, "Hey, don't sweat it. It's just part of my culture."
The dictionary defines a boy as a young male who lacks maturity and judgment. Since when do we need to apologize for the truth? But then again, I’m simply a bitter old man.
Look what happened to Togo when he stole from the PX in DC.. NOTHING. If one is “of color”.....I’m sick of these members of the pc crowd. They fear the word “homosexual” so use a beautiful word “gay” to describe sodomites. We can no longer say Islam is a terrorist religion, they are “peaceful”?, the list goes on. The only groups we can harangue and harass are Christians and Catholics.
Wow, are you as animated for all of obama’s racists rants?
"Watch that boy s---, redneck."
OH BOY; Another Republican wuss grovels, whines, and apologizes a gazillion times and begs for forgiveness.
Where are the “men” who will stand up and say: “Yeah, I said it; deal with it”? This crap is what caused George Allen to be defeated in ‘06; not his remark but the fact that he fell victim to the “politically correct” crowd and whined and apologized over and over and over like a little girl.
