I haven't met any evangelicals with that kind of attitude ever, in the thirty years that I've been a Christian.

I would like to invite you to check out some of the Yahoo groups for Catholic debate. Specifically Catholic Debate forum, and BattleACTS.
I can think of 3-4 Evangelicals/ Fundamentalists that personify that description.
