“The idea is that lying produces lots of activity in the area of the brain responsible for problem solving, since when telling the truth one doesnt have to worry about conflicting events, and does when lying.”
yes...I saw this awhile ago on TV.
The brain files different types of info into seperate areas.
The truth gets filed away in one part for easy retrieval - no need to add or subtract to the truth. People moved their eyes in a certain direction when retrieving the truth.
Another part of the brain was used for lying because it required creative problem solving -inventing details while remembering previous lies. The eyes moved in a different direction while liars concocted their stories.
“So every time I try to think logically, a deliberate active process, the machine says I’m lying. Did this come from the onion? “
different parts of the brain were “lighting up” on the MRI depending on what type of information the subject was retrieving (truth was easily retrieved from one area - lies required creative thinking as well as remembering previous lies - different area).
Great party toy.
I'm in the clear.
I was in the hospital once for a brain scan. They didn't find anything.
I do recall that the machine does have a weakness with pathological liars, though, as one comment alluded to. I’m trying to remember where I heard about this, and it might have been Coast to Coast. Not always the most reliable source, but sometimes they get it right.
