No, they aren’t. They weren’t in 1944 and they aren’t now.
Have to disagree with you there. *Most* people are good at heart. Unfortunately, it only takes one who is not good at heart to ruin your whole day.
I believe as Anne Frank that people are basically good at heart. There are evil people and always a need for the sheep dog; but, people basically are good.
I think this a conservative value actually. You can trust the innate goodness of people. The are not inherently evil needing the power of the state to force them against their nature.
Actually, yes, people are generally good at heart. However, as with any generalization about any kind of population, there are differences and variations. She was unlucky enough to run into THAT reality... that her assumption about the truth of a generalization did not apply universally and equally to all. THAT is one of the foundational faults within the body of liberal ideology.
