But it’s a very old lesson. It’s the same one from the famous last line of Anne Frank’s diary: “I still believe people are basically good at heart.” No, they aren’t. They weren’t in 1944 and they aren’t now.

Have to disagree with you there. *Most* people are good at heart. Unfortunately, it only takes one who is not good at heart to ruin your whole day.

On a much lower level eBay was founded on that philosophy. For the most part most sellers and buyers are honest in their dealings but bad apples are there too and caution is always prudent.
