Marc Ambinder tries to put some perspective on the latest of Barack Obamas gaffes. Were dealing tonight with a classic Kinsleyian gaffe, where a candidate says what he means and then is forced to account for it. Lets separate, for the moment, the politics of Obamas words from the argument he is making.
We can stop there. In liberalism they are forever separating the politics from the argument except of course when it applies at a conservative. Then its all one big happy gaffe that they are all too happy to collectively pounce on.
There is really no defense of Obamas words, and its not just because I said it, but because that is what Obama has said all along, that words means something, they are the measure of a man, Words Matter.

Of course, it’s an empty suit. All the candidates this year seemed to be in empty suits. The American people don’t require excellence: they’ll just settle for Obama’s “health care”.
“Words Matter”. Especially words said in private, behind closed doors.

I know Obama's poll numbers recovered after the pastor Wright thing, but that was also a function of Hillary's asinine gaffes about dodging sniper fire. Although his poll numbers rebounded, I think a lot of people put him on a kind of "probation"--"we'll cut you slack over this stuff, but if there's any more weird/outrageous stuff out there, we're gonna punish you for it."
Hillary's line of credit with the voters seems maxed out, and Obama's getting close to his limit, too. The dems have managed to chose two of the most incompetent, inept candidates in the history of politics. I hope conservatives can use this to their advantage and get in as many of us at the local and state level as possible. It would be nice if people would stop bitching about McCain--that battle is over, and we lost--and would start doing something positive. If life gives you lemons, make lemonade, etc. (And I guess some will sneer at this advice and continue to pronounce our collective doom.)
Speaking of white people...yesterday there was a topic and someone, can’t recall who, posted a link that was Obama reading his Audacity of Hope...and there were passages in that which reminded me of the gaffe he made the other day but he redacted white people and put in blue collar workers..does anyone else recall this passage. I found it really telling and I wish at least one of the conservative talk show or tv shows would bring this up or at least research it.
While I am uncertain if he and his racist thugs have said it recently, I am fairly confident that both he and his buddies will say it in the near future.
I think Obama is trying to spread the “I am a victim” ideology to whites. It has worked so well with blacks, especially for people like Rev. Wright and other black preachers and black politicians, that he sees it working just as well on whites. He is trying to sell the same Kool Aid to whites that he and others have been selling to blacks for generations. He is urging whites to “play the victim card”.
Liberals “misspeak” or make “gaffes”.
Conservatives are mean-spirited, racist, homophobes.
That’s how the media spin it.
Perfect!
That's exactly what he's doing. It was clear in his "racism" speech, when he said (as if invoking a spell) [paraphrase] "whites feel this way, too."
It's world class crowd-manipulation. Talk about audacity!
