TEHRAN, Iran (CNN) -- Iran denied a report that several of its boats taunted a U.S. Navy vessel in the Persian Gulf on Thursday night, according to IRNA, Iran's official news agency.

A U.S. military official told CNN Friday that the USS Typhoon, a small patrol craft, was approached by three small Iranian boats in a "taunting manner."

"There has been no confrontation between Iranian boats and the U.S. [Fifth] Fleet," IRNA quoted an unnamed Iranian source as saying.

They play the game well, knowing America’s liberals. Stand by for additional “Gulf of Tonkin” claims.

They’re telling the truth people. Running away with the remnants of that mornings falafel running down the inside of your leg is hardly a confrontation! Coooome oooooon!

I really don’t understand what the problem is. Do the guns on our vessels not swivel down far enough to blow these craft out of the water?

Next time they need to put the flares INSIDE the boats. Preferably near a fuel tank!

Well this is good news. When we blow the next one out of the water we won’t have to worry about the Iranian reaction to this “unprovoked attack.” Fire away!!

We need to send all those Persian pissants on to ‘allah’ for their 72 virgins and big buffet table, starting with the little runt that looks like Sonny Bono after a night in the gutter.

Turn Iran into a bloody glass parking lot, and the world will be a better place for it.

(w/apologies to our resident ‘pissant’)

Thank you for the post.

I am certain that Iran is playing a very calculated game. They are establishing a series of provocations. I am also sure that they are sophisticated enough to have other military assets in the area, where it is long range artillery, missiles, aircraft, their new submarine, or a large underwater mine field waiting for remote detonation.

I would wager that there hope is to get (on film for Middle Eastern TV) a USN ship firing upon a “peaceful” Iranian vessel and then the Iranian military with some surprise move that is un-anticipated, destroying the US Naval vessel for all the world to see. The desired Iranian message is that Iran will destroy anyone who shoots at them. Iranians see themselves as a world superpower who brought down the Soviet Union and is now working to bring down the USA.

The only way for the USN to win this, will be to have a very good understanding of all Iranian military assets within range of all of their naval vessels and have contingency plans to destroy all such assets, the moment the USN decides to fire upon some little provocative, but potentially dangerous boat that approaches too close.

Until a major “full theater” confrontation takes place, my money is on continued provocation in the hopes that someone will provide Iran with the excuse they desire to fire back, but that they are counting on the USN not being ready to deliver an overwhelming “full theater of operations” response.

I also question the political willingness of the USN to deliver a full and total response, and would not be surprised for the USN to be willing to sacrifice a ship and its crew to this game. I fear that the brass and Pentagon may be too afraid to respond with the needed force.

Prod and poke.

The times we live in allow the them to claim fake footage, photoshop etc.

In the meantime they are testing the waters. (so to speak)

We should make it clear that any vessel exhibiting a threat will be blown out of the water if within 1,000 ft.

Enough of this crap.

We need a gun that blasts em with capsules of pig fat.

I think our sailors would enjoy the challenge.

I'd prefer a launch of raw bacon onto the craft followed by gutting the hull of boat.
