Barack Obama Forms Catholic Advisory Council to Make Pro-Life Inroads
LifeNews.com ^ | April 11, 2008 | Steven Ertelt

Pro-abortion Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama is expected to announce the formation of a Catholic Advisory Council today that he will likely use to try to make inroads among pro-life Catholic voters.

However, whether Obama's position in favor of unlimited abortions funded with taxpayer dollars goes over with Catholic voters is another question.

Senator Bob Casey and former Congressman Tim Roemer will participate in the Friday afternoon conference call to announce the formation of the advisory group.

The participation and leadership of the two pro-life politicians is an obvious clue that Obama wants to siphon some of the pro-life Catholic vote away from eventual Republican nominee John McCain.

"Obama has two high profile pro-lifers in prominent roles on this Council," CBN News correspondent David Brody observes.

"[They] have taken flack from the Democratic Party in the past because they are not pro-choice. The Obama campaign is clearly trying to send a message," he explains. "They want Catholics and evangelicals to know that while Obama may be pro-choice, the pro-life point of view is not going to be so easily discounted."

The timing of the announcement of the Catholic advisory group comes just before a weekend debate at Messiah College in Pennsylvania featuring Obama and Hillary Clinton that will focus on faith issues.

For his part, John McCain has already received the endorsement of pro-life Catholic stalwarts and has his own Catholic outreach group.

In mid-March, McCain released a list of more than 100 prominent Catholic pro-life advocates who have endorsed his campaign.

The list includes Dr. Jack Willke, the former president and founder of the National Right to Life Committee and Dominos Pizza and Ave Maria University founder Tom Monaghan.

Marjorie Dannenfelser, the head of the Susan B. Anthony List, a top pro-life political group, has endorsed McCain as has her husband Martin Dannenfelser, a former Family Research Council vice president.

Austin Ruse, president of the Catholic Family and Human Rights Institute, and Cathy Ruse, the former pro-life spokeswoman for the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops are McCain supporters as well.

Sen. Sam Brownback heads up the Catholics for McCain effort and he said the long list of pro-life advocates supporting the Arizona senator is a result of his support for "faith, freedom, and families."

"Committed to the protection of innocent human life, he is a leader Catholics will be proud to support," Brownback said.

"John McCain knows from experience what it means when a society tramples on the truth of the value of the human person. He is committed to defending the dignity and value of every person, regardless of their status," Brownback added.

Meanwhile, Wendy Wright, the president of Concerned Women for America, tells LifeNews.com that Obama can't expect to get the votes of pro-life advocates just because a handful of Catholics endorse him.

“Pro-lifers have learned from painful past experience not to assume or expect that a candidate will be faithful to his – or his endorsers’ – religious affiliations," she told LifeNews.com. "Our litmus test is: Show us the beef. What is the candidate’s record?”

The babies YOU BREEDERS have are punishment, his are darling sweet children who unfortunately are the descendents of slaves (and YES he made a claim for being “down with the struggle” because although he personally is NOT descended from slaves, his wife was, ergo his kids are, ergo his FAMILY is, ergo he makes the claim for HIS campaign).

An evil one.

LOL!!

I have a new nickname for my kids....”punishments”.

Although...being 9 months pregnant (breeder that I am), right now - that nickname feels fitting for the time being.

I won’t be so cranky in a couple of months though.

Socialists lie. Always.

Both CLINTON and OBAMA (note the underhanded game being played to pretend that it is “Hillary, first name only” versus “Obama, last name only, CERTAINLY no middle name”), Both (third term) CLINTON and OBAMA are Marxists. It is a stalemate really. They both will say or do anything to get elected and they know that both will push through similar policies.

Except with socialist Utopias, there can be only one Stalin, Lenin, Che, Castro, etc. No one wants to say “me too”. They have a god complex and HAVE to be the one that ushers in the change. So they fight for it.

Meanwhile our nation needs to have a serious debate over whether we even WANT a Marxist running the show.

For now, the candidates may be discredited as bigots, liars, buffoons, and sexual predators but the agenda is still safe from rebuke.

Which is why the culture war continues. Too many would rather let a “scandal” be excused as the reason someone stepped down. Howard Dean did not bail out of the race over a scream. His support was as internet contrived as Ron Paul’s presidential run (the votes just weren’t there except in online polls). The party had to pull the plug on that kook (Dean) as quick as they could and they promised him the chair for doing so.

The media was only too willing to play along “Yeaaarrrrgggh!” ha ha. Obama’s own Macaca Moment, captured “among friends” not “you people” should already have tanked his scampaign.

Just don’t try calling your kids little monkeys, you might be sentenced to a $75 fine and “re-education”.

> Yes, you read that right. This guy voted present (translation - no) when it come to protecting babies who survived a failed abortion.

‘Strewth. Where do they find doctors evil enough to do such things?

It’s not like he’s even trying to be subtle about it. He must really hold the American Catholic voter in utter and abject contempt.

Right now, McCain has got to be the luckiest Republican candidate in all of history: he need only keep his mouth shut and let Hillary and Obama kill each other off. Two more inept candidates would be impossible to find. The election is McCain’s to lose at this point.

And he’ll listen to anything concerning life—why? Of course he won’t. Obama is invested in death at any time and wants to use our money to pay for it. Screw him and his liberal—very liberal, fanatical liberal bullshit.

“Casey better change this man’s mind quick or get to confession”

Why would he sacrifice his principles in such a way anyway? I have always been puzzled at pro-life democrats. Seems like an oxymoron.

Sad because it really shouldn’t be necessary, ay. In my view, abortion is the moral equivalent of offering children to Molech. For all I know it probably serves the same ultimate purpose.

This coming from a man that would take more offense at seeing baby seals clubbed to death than having a child's brains sucked from out of their heads! Any Catholic who buys this bill of goods needs to change their religion.

Hey, Barack. How about making pro-life inroads by describing in detail with pictures all the abortion practices you've supported legislatively over the years and then publicly denouncing and renouncing each one and pledging that as president you will do everything you can to stop them, including appointing pro-life judges to the bench and vetoing any legislation that supports or funds the practices? This way you'd not only have Catholics but all the other pro-life people as well.

Of course, they'd have to believe that it wasn't a lie like everything else.

I will say this, the media played it up like Michael Dukakis actually had a chance too (even up to election day).

The media (A) won’t concede the election for Democrats until it happens (although they WILL try to disuade Republicans from going to the polls) and (B) the media makes good money from the political ad cycle (plus it keeps the Democrat agenda in view).

One of the top Dems (Terry McAwful, Howard Dead, James Carville?) a few years back (maybe in the 2004 election I don’t recall) said that EVEN IF their own internal polling showed a certain defeat they would still push on and never let it show.

And we know that the polling numbers reported by the media in 2004 were cooked by the polling groups. They oversampled Democrats to depress the Republican turnout. Even on election day they declared it “over” before the polls had closed.

The talking points in the first 7 minutes on all the networks was “just like his dad, Bush is a 1 term president tanked by the economy...”. The REAL returns started to come in and they had to ignore the talking points they’d received from the DNC offices.

So like the era of Dukakis, don’t believe everything you hear about the bright new viable Democrat candidates. America isn’t that dumb.

“Why does Obama not also form an “NRA” team to help him win votes from the 2nd Admendent / pro-gun voters?”

Give him time; he will. Pandering is his middle name—no wait, it’s Hussein, it really is!
