“ah, Windows. The OS for stupid people.”
I’m primarily a gamer and don’t consider myself stupid. Most of the games I play require Windows exclusively and won’t play on Linux or an emulator without a lot of tweaking. Why go through all that?
I’m not defending Windows, just pointing out that your statement is too general.

It that is in fact the case, then Microsoft did its job very well.
If Microsoft has indeed made computers so simple to use that even stupid people can use them with not too many problems, then that's the kind of software that wins the wider audiences and in fact, MS does have the much wider audiences for its products.
If software and computers are simple to use and you don't have to dedicate time to debugging or working around problems, then that frees you up to be more productive in other areas.
Thus far, nobody else has come up with a better or more widely accepted product than what MS has done with Windows (whatever the version). Linux has been promised for perhaps 15 years, but it has always failed for one reason or another.
I am in the software and applications design/development business and I would still prefer to use the simpler to use OS than the one that requires tweaking or workarounds for something or other.
