MIAMI (AP) The federal government wants to fine Florida's largest electric company $130,000 because security guards slept on duty at a nuclear plant.
The Nuclear Regulatory Commission says Florida Power & Light Co. violated security requirements at the Turkey Point plant from 2004 to 2006. It says guards served as lookouts while others slept on the job.
The commission says in a letter to the utility that its "inattentive behavior" is of particular concern and can't be tolerated.
The utility's nuclear spokesman says the company has made security changes to ensure this doesn't happen again.
The guards were employed by Wackenhut Nuclear Services. Wackenhut did not return phone messages.
The commission says Wackenhut has agreed to make sure its workers are attentive on the job.
Mr Burns is not happy.
Kicking is in dyslexia.

Fines?
They should probably lose their jobs. But oh well, fines now - fired if it ever happens again. Anything less than that would be suicidal.
lol
I was about to post the same thing!
IIRC, Wackenhut is owned by foreign nationals.
Maybe now we know how the IDF flew all the way into Syria and destroyed their NUKE facility without being detected.
LOL - Dyslexics untie!
Or you’re turning into Yoda. Turning into him you are.
Phew! It's a relief to know I wasn't the only one. ;-)
Just when I think people couldn’t get any dumber.
To sleep...by a nuke...that you’re supposed to be guarding...
It just boggles the mind.
PS:FPL has 2 many up and down the E coast to tread on this lightly
At one point they were actually encouraged to play video games at their posts. The rationalization for this was 'it will keep them awake.'
Word of that leaked out and the PSP's were verboten. So now these Wackenhut 12 dollar an hour 'guards' are nodding off at their posts.
Here in IL we are literally surrounded by nuke plants. Most of them are waaaay out in the sticks surrounded by miles and miles of cornfields. There's literally nothing to look at but corn or dirt depending on the time of year.
Now I'm not defending these clowns, but for God sake either put Marines in charge of plant security or give them an adequate budget so they can change these guys out every three or four hours.
If I had to sit at a guard post in Cornfield, IL for 8 straight hours a day with nothing to do until shift change I'd most likely nod off, too.

I don’t know why they can’t say “sleeping” instead of “inattentive.” Recently they caught an Auxiliary Operator here who was “inattentive.” Maybe it means something different - worse - to them.
