Pretty much what I found out first hand as well when my wife and I went there and explored Egypt first hand while not on some prepackaged tour. We went in 1995, I guess not much has changed since then in these regards.

My journey began on an EgyptAir flight out of JFK. I was a bit surprised, to say the least, when the in-flight video came on prior to departure and instead of the usual safety video, a picture of a mosque flickered on and a deep-toned recorded voice came on reciting Islamic prayers out of the Koran. Huh! I took that flight in November and they didn't do that.

My dad was in Egypt in the ‘80s for a military-related exchange at an airbase of the Egyptian Air Force, and was given a personal tour of the base by a Colonel..... they met a bright young Captain who greatly impressed my dad in discussion...... as they walked away the Colonel sighed and said “yes, he’s one of our best young officers, it’s a shame he’s a Christian and can’t go any higher in his career”
It was pretty incredible that the Colonel would say that so openly to an outsider (and devout Christian) like my dad, but it was such a matter-of-fact statement that the guy didn’t even give it another thought I’m sure.
