A growing number of Democrats have falsely accused Sen. John McCain of promising 100 years of war in Iraq. In fact, McCains point was that the presence of American forces promotes stability. Thats been the case in Europe and Asia, where Americans have been stationed for more than half a century. Its been true in the Balkans since the 1990s, when President Clinton sent troops there. Americas military plays a beneficial role when it eliminates Americas enemies; it does so also when it stays on to prevent those enemies from reemerging.
But there is a hard truth that McCain did not state: A hundred years from now, Americans might still be fighting militant Islamists in Iraq and other places. What could be worse than that? A hundred years from now, America and the West could have been defeated by militant Islamists.

The only reason it is a talking point is McCain foolishly made it one.

The only reason it is a talking point is McCain foolishly made it one.....
and it is a one liner......
to put out all of the lib/dem foolish remarks would take a book longer than war & peace....another thing they know nothing about!!!
democrats and power; a truly dangerous mix.
McCain’s got the right temperament to call these people liars, which they are. He should.
Democrats wanted us to "redeploy from Iraq," 4 years after we freed it from decades of dictatorship, while Iraq was still militarily, politically and socially immature.
They should read some Korean War history.
We "redeployed from South Korea," 4 years after we freed it from decades of Japanese oppression, while S. Korea was still militarily, politically and socially immature.
When the North Korean army of Communist dictator Kim il-Sung invaded South Korea Truman sent troops back to Korea to re-win S. Korea's freedom.
Within 30 months 30,000 Americans died in Korea, the press was severely censored, and the US military draft was in full swing.

McCain knows the rules are different for republicans than they are for the Rats. He knows that. Or does he think he is the lone republican the media likes and he doesn't need to pay attention to the "rules" unfair as they are.?
He gave them ammo and it makes no difference if the Rats give them more ammo. I think it is an example of his poor judgement to say something that basically paints a target on his back.
McCain is stupid.
McCain is being misquoted 'cause those Dimbulb Peacniks haven't a clue. It was Col Musharf in the Kitchen with a knife.
BUMP to post 7.
It is a shame the President and other leaders do not speak such common sense in their defense of this war
We’ve been fighting Muslims off and on since 1803.
That’s 205 years for you public school grads.
What makes anyone think its going to change?
As soon as I read of McCain’s stupid remark I knew that the Rats would hang it around his neck in the fall. McQueeg’s pretty much been able to run his mouth on any subject and get away with it, but that’s about to change.
Using lib logic (I know, an oxymoron), we’ve had “67 years of war” with Germany.
Technically, we’re still at war (58 years) with N. Korea.
The RNC and the Republican candidates are fools and deserve to lose control of congress and the Presidency - too bad we will suffer their blindness. If they ran a commerical about Klinton saying we will not be in the Balkins more than 2-5 years or that this is the best economy in 50 years - 1996 state of the UNION address by BJ Klinton - then they would win over the indy voter and the Reagan Democrats, but they are complete fools. They never miss a chance to miss a chance to look good.
Yeah, he gave the Dem's a freeby shot at his chin, which was not smart no doubt about it. But, on the other-hand, he was merely stating the truth - actually, probably made an understatement as far as the time-line is concerned. Let's keep in mind that the west and the U.S. in particular has been engaged in a low-grade conflict with Islam since the Barbary Wars of the early 19th century. Sometimes this war has gone dormant for awhile and the sometimes it resurfaces into an actual shooting war which is what we have at the moment. Using history as my guide, it appears to me that the only way to push this perpetual conflict back into dormancy is to hit them as hard and as brutally as possible as that's the only thing that these people respect. Got to make them bleed and die beyond their tolerance level.
Holly Robichuad has a great column on Barack Obama’s foriegn policy experience in todya’s Boston Herald.
He was stating the truth, but he gave the Dems a heckuva soundbite by the way he said it. He could easily have used the Bush Administration line, “We’ll be in Iraq as long as we need to be and not one day longer.” That’s both an accurate statement and a politically savvy one.
McCain keeps loading the gun and handing it to the MSM. He doesn’t know much about the economy, but he bought Greenspan’s book, we’ll be in Iraq a hundred years as long as no troops are getting killed (huh?) his opponents are qualified and would make good Presidents, etc. There is a way to answer questions without handing the press juicy tidbit after juicy tidbit to be used against him later.
Either McCain needs better advisors or he needs to listen to his advisors. He still seems to be under the impression tha the media are his friends and will cover for him. They will disabuse him of that silly idea soon enough.
LadyNavyVet, Doggone-it, I wish you had not said that (statement above). McCain is not my favorite choice either as I perceive him to actually be a Democrat-In-Drag, metaphorically speaking that is. But, regardless of his economic credentials, or lack of, he will be far better than either Obama or Clinton. That is unless you favor this country taking a hard turn to the left. If your vision for this country is something akin to the European model, Socialist-Democracy, then by all means vote for whichever of the two lefties that wins the Democrat nomination. But, if you do and if the Democrat candidate win’s you are gonna be sorrrrrrry.....
Read my post again. I didn’t say that McCain’s opponents were qualified and would make good presidents, MCCAIN DID. How ‘bout lecturing him on the evils of socialism, HE’S the one who dearly needs it, not that he cares what you or I think about anything.
That statement, which McCain has made in past few months about BOTH opponents, will come back and bite him, just like the 100 years statement and the not knowing about economics statements.
McCain’s not just a poor candidate, he’s a poor campaigner.
