Tom Curley, the Associated Press president, hailed the decision and demanded that officials "finally do the right thing" and free Bilal Hussein.

Great. Release him into a hogpen at feeding time.

***The ruling also said Hussein should be immediately released if no other charges are pending.***

First, if he had not been charged with any crimes before then there can be no “other” charges pending. Second, change him on other charges.

He ain't goin nowhere.

****U.S. military authorities have said a U.N. Security Council mandate allows them to retain custody of a detainee they believe is a security risk even if an Iraqi judicial body has ordered that prisoner freed. The U.N. mandate is due to expire at the end of this year.

Also, the amnesty committee's ruling on Hussein may not cover a separate allegation that has been raised in connection with the case.****

But of course AP would rally behind the guy. They’ve rallied behind Al Qaeda for five years.

We will release him immediately. Will his next of kin please be sure to bring proper photo identification so we can ensure we release the body to the correct family members.

Must be tough for AP - good insurgent stringers are getting harder to find.
