The guards protecting the Olympic flame had paramilitary training and were chosen by Beijing for their toughness and fitness. China’s blue-clad flame attendants, whose aggressive methods of safeguarding the Olympic torch have provoked international outcry, are paramilitary police from a force spun off from the country’s army.

This is astounding. I also never realized that the torch carrying "ceremony" was instigated by the Germans in 1935. So we are spending millions around a Nazi started tradition!

So we are spending millions around a Nazi started tradition!

There never was a country so suited to do so...

BTW, did you know that Hitler's architect's grandson did the design for the Beijing Olympics?

Traditions are important!

Fling the torch over the edge of the Golden Gate Bridge and let it be extinguished by the cold waters of San Francisco Bay.

I still haven’t forgotten the thousands of freedom loving men and women who were killed in Tiananmen Square in June, 1989 by the “People’s Liberation Army.” I haven’t forgotten the bulldozing of the “Godess of Democracy” statue either.

These “para-military forces” (read: Chinese Army) are going to be on U.S. soil TODAY.

I hope the people of San Fran treat them with all the grace and hospitality they would afford the U.S. Marines.

Didn’t we all suspect this?

The San Fransickos are planning to run around naked in protest.

That's apparently the way they do things, there ... perhaps one of them will grab the torch and extinguish it in a peculiarly San Fransicko way ...

This has the potential to be a lot of fun.

Anybody know what time they wave the green flag in SF?

It must be tearing them up to have to protest against their fellow commies.

The left is, for whatever reason, all into freeing Tibet ... apparently unaware that they wish to free it from Communist Chinese oppression.

Anyway, I hope the San Fransickos have a field-day with this.

Let me add that I hope zombietime is able to attend the festivities. I trust him to provide comprehensive and objective reporting on the event.

So who, exactly, authorized the Chinese military to operate on American soil?

I want a name. Failing that, I will accept the name of President George W. Bush.

This really is All Bush's Fault. Protection of US soil from foreign militaries is his responsibility.

...and Mitsubishi made Zeros.

...and the VW Bug came from Nazi Germany.

...and a host of German companies made war machines.

I think the Tibettan Protesters could have made a BIGGER statement if they could have lined the roads with people showing their backs to the flame passing buy.

Imagine the pictures.

mile after mile of spectators with their backs to the road.

Peaceful, media friendly (just wait for that picture of the little boy or girl with their back to the road as the flame passes)

Sadly in this game, whether it is the hippie nutcase protesters or the thug chinese, there are not worthy good guys.

The US would be accused of arogance and the violation of human rights if we had 10 Navy Seals or perhaps Blackwater guarding the torch.
People think that the US is a bad actor,,can just wait until China really feels their oats.
It may be fun today..seeing jackbooted commies taking down naked green butted commies.

Yes, and if those thugs lay ONE hand on ONE American during the “running of the torch”, the San Fran P.D. should make SURE that they become the first Chinese troops to die on U.S. soil.

And yes, for the purposes of this post, I include the dirty naked hippy protesters as Americans.

Architect grandson????

Proof please. Documented.

AFAIK Hitler fathered no children with either his niece Geli Raubal or mistress/eventual wife Eva Braun.

These are the only two women he was known to have been intimate with.

I would like a name too.

It almost HAS to be either Bush or Rice.

And I, sadly, must agree with you. THIS is GWB’s fault (NO sarcasm alert).
