Report: Saudi Official Arrested in Mughniyeh Death

(IsraelNN.com) Syrian forces have arrested a Saudi official in connection with the killing of arch-terrorist Imad Mughniyeh, according to Iran’s Fars news agency. The official who was detained is a senior defense official working in Damascus, said an Iranian source quoted in the Fars report.

The source said that Israel planned the assassination, but that the killing itself was carried out by local Arabs with Syrian and Jordanian citizenship who rented apartments in Mughniyeh’s upscale Damascus neighborhood. Saudi Arabia was heavily involved, he said.

The Saudi detainee is reportedly linked to a Syrian woman who is also suspected in the killing. The woman purchased two cars and parked them near Mughniyeh’s residence, the source said. One of the cars was used to hide the bomb that killed Mughniyeh, he said.

So Israel is recruiting Saudi officials and "local Arabs" to do their dirty work now, eh?

Interesting...

Its pure fiction. Arabs would not kill Arabs for Israel. The Syrians have investigated and they have found nothing to link Israel to Mugniyeh's demise.

Only in the Middle East: Iranians claim the Saudis used a Syrian
woman to procure vehicles turned over to the Israelis who used a Jordanian
and Palestinian team to murder a Lebanese militant in Damascus to avenge an
attack against Americans...

Everbody and his brother in the Middle East wanted Mughniyeh dead.

I suspect the Saudis did it alone.

Wow, this guy didn’t have very many friends. Hats off to anyone who can bring the Israelis and Arabs together for a joint effort (if it really happened that way).

Realpolitik makes strange bedfellows. The Israelis provided arms to Iran in the Iran-Iraq war.

Like I said though it’s well possible the Saudis did the whole op themselves. They hate Shia radicals and hate Hezbollah.

Saves having to arrest members of Syrian intelligence.

Forget the truth; just consider that it’s more embarassing for Syria to admit that foreign powers can kill at will in the heart of Damascus than to arrest and execute their own security personnel.

...especially after Israel showed that Syria has no working air defenses back on September 6.

That’s a “How To” book on not looking like a regional power.

Are we supposed to believe that the Israelis have the Saudis under their thumb now?

I highly doubt that....its why this article seemed so odd. I cannot imagine the Royals agreeing to help the Israelis unless there is a real rogue component running around Syria. Did Mughniyeh fit that description? Otherwise the inference doesn’t make sense.

The Arab leadership seems to think they can blame the Jews for anything and everything. It is hard to imagine that many of their people continue to believe such things.

Interesting, but not surprising.

Mughniyeh/Hezbollah = Iranian proxies, and the Saudis hate Iran
