The Idaho Statesman was named a 2008 Pulitzer Prize finalist in Breaking News Reporting for its coverage of the Larry Craig scandal that began with his arrest and guilty plea in an airport restroom last August. This is the first time the Statesman has been a finalist in its 141-year history. The McClatchy Co. has won more than 50 of journalism's most prestigious prize.
The Washington Post won the 2008 Breaking News Reporting award for its coverage of the shooting rampage at Virginia Tech. The New York Times was also named a Pulitzer finalist in this category.
The Pulitzers have been awarded since 1917 to reward excellent journalism. Prizes are also awarded to novelists, poets, historians, biographers and more.

The main question is: is the "Mistakesman" potentially being awarded for a "drive by"? (Since it was pretty obvious that Craig wasn't going to get out of office on his shoddy immigration record alone?)

I don't know. They outed a closeted gay. Used to be if you did that the other homos would be mad at you. Now you get awards for it! Who knew. Just another way the Democrats are total hypocrits.
- Sex is private (unless you are a Republican, in which case it must be made public).
- Homosex is good and harms no one (unless you are a Republican, in which case it is shocking and hypocritical).
- Public Sex is a Constitutional Right (unless you are a Republican, in which case it is degrading and criminal).
- Sting operations are stupid and immoral (unless they target Republican politicians for merely trying (not succeeding) in picking up a fellow homo, in which case they are a much needed tonic).
- Police always lie about the accused (unless they are Republican office holders, in which case they are paragons of virtue!).
Did I miss any?

Nah, I think you pretty much covered it. Although to put it another way, Dims expect those in the GOP (at least those who at least show a modicum of conservative leanings) to be Jesus Christ. When they fall short of this, the left throws a temper tantrum.
