Campaign to highlight Clinton's humanity after Penn's departure
UK Guardian ^ | April 7, 2008 | Suzanne Goldenberg and Daniel Nasaw

Hillary Clinton's faltering presidential campaign will undergo a "mini-makeover" that will emphasise her more caring side following the departure of its main strategist, Mark Penn.

Penn's exit, announced yesterday, follows clashes over his outside work for other clients - notably the government of Colombia, screaming matches with senior campaign staff, and withering criticism of his strategy.

The CEO of the public relations firm, Burson-Marsteller, and the polling firm, Penn, Schoen and Berland, Penn, 53, had been the public face of the Clinton campaign - in addition to his role as chief strategist.

His withdrawal gives Clinton an opening to try to craft a new and more coherent message for the remaining primary contests, in an attempt to catch up with Barack Obama's formidable advantage in the race for the Democratic nomination.

Democratic consultants said Clinton would gradually try to shift the focus from experience and readiness to lead - Penn's vision for her candidacy - towards highlighting her more human side.

But that does not at all mean she will stop using negative campaigning against Obama, a Democratic media consultant said.

"Now I think we will see a more uniform message," he said. "It is clearly not going to be experience - we are way past that. It could be a softer Hillary, but it might also have to be tougher on Obama. You can have both of those at the same time, a positive ad and a negative ad."

The shift represents a victory for Mandy Grunwald, Clinton's media adviser, as well as Penn's replacement as pollster and message consultant, Geoffrey Garin.

her more human side

Reminds me of the dark side of the moon. Never seen.

Sort of like how Hitler was a vegetarian and was nice to his dog.

Oh please, can we do without another version of Hillary? If you have to keep redoing who she is, then we probably don’t like who she is in the first place....it’s a little late for this isn’t it ?
Maybe Al Gore’s earth tones will help.

Right between the Hillary reinventions, the fake tears, the changing accents, the “Finding of her Voice” and on and on and on and on, it’s throw stuff against the wall and see what sticks. If it were anyone else it would be sad, but given that it’s her heinous, it’s just comical.

Well Rodney King has already used “Can’t we all get along.” And her Rapist-in-Chief spouse has already used “I feel your pain”. And Robert Duvall, has used “ I love the smell of napalm in the morning”. I am not sure what could fit into a sound byte that could feign her humanity.

Maybe Hillary could tug on our heartstrings and find someone, like a pregnant woman with no insurance who has been turned out into a raging blizzard to have her child because "Big Medicine" demands she either have health insurance or have money and she loses her child and then she herself dies.

Even if it never happened....IT COULD HAPPEN TO ANYONE!!!!

What a completely empty shell of a human.

Highlight her humanity?

Like pouring a glass of water in the ocean and making it less salty.

When you have to prove you are human, then you know what people think of you. And if the Clintons knew what people thought of her, what other than their own conceit would have convinced them she could get elected President?

The only thing better than watching these serial grifters go down is a big bowl of butter pecan ice cream.

WEll said.

How does one transform an obvious narcissist who is blind to their own faults and without the ability to genuinely care about anything but herself into a something different?

I guess she could get more self-centered and lustful for power. Actually no, I forgot who I was talking about for a second there.

Yes, in the face of the 109 million income, the stiffing waitress of tips repeatedly over the past year says all you need to know.

It really isn’t possible. Everytime this woman opens her mouth it is more apparent that she is a big phony. When she tries to act like she cares, she is at her worst.

She is incapable of pulling this off.

I'm retired but I'd like to ask FReepers working in a professional environment, when was the last time you had a screaming match with someone at work?

Is this another symptom of the mental disease that is liberalism?
