Obama: I Traveled To Pakistan In College By Greg Sargent - April 7, 2008, 1:41PM

The Obama campaign says it's not disupting this account by The Huffington Post's Off the Trail of some remarks Obama made at a California fundraiser last night, including this:

"I traveled to Pakistan when I was in college -- I knew what Sunni and Shia was [sic] before I joined the Senate Foreign Relations Committee..."

We don't recall this being public before, but if it has been, let us know.

Obama also suggested that he wouldn't be looking for a hawkish type to shore up his foreign policy credentials when searching for a veep...

"I would like somebody who knows about a bunch of stuff that I'm not as expert on," he said, and then he was off and running. "I think a lot of people assume that might be some sort of military thing to make me look more Commander-in-Chief-like.

Hmmmmm ... appears mom wasn’t in Pakistan when he was in college.

http://obama.senate.gov/about/

Barack Obama was born on August 4th, 1961, in Hawaii to Barack Obama, Sr. and Ann Dunham. Obama graduated from Columbia University in 1983, and moved to Chicago in 1985 to work for a church-based group seeking to improve living conditions in poor neighborhoods plagued with crime and high unemployment. In 1991, Obama graduated from Harvard Law School where he was the first African American president of the Harvard Law Review.

Link at post #26:

In 1986, Dunham did a one-year development project in Pakistan. That year, mother and daughter took a two-week journey along the old Silk Route to China.

Dunham’s work for the Agricultural Development Bank of Pakistan was followed by stints at People’s Bank of Indonesia and Women’s World Banking in New York. She also did consulting work for the World Bank and USAID.

...would have found his way to Pakistan in that era.... WHY? Who or what brought him there?

It seems Pakistan was a land of great inspiration for certain people in the 1980s.

Not even ready for Muslim prime time. As vapid as his cult members all are.

“I traveled to Pakistan when I was in college — I knew what Sunni and Shia was [sic] before I joined the Senate Foreign Relations Committee...”

Strangely enough, john Kerry’s comments about Obama knowing the difference between Shi’a and Sunni predates this.

It’s an odd liberal thing. A projection, that no one would else know the difference before 9/11 because they themselves didn’t.

Obama says he was in pakistan during college ...
His mom didn't go to pakistan until after he left college.

check out this article...
http://www.pickensdemocrats.org/info/TheAgitator_070319.htm
no mention of pakistan during the time his mom was there.

no mention of pakistan during his harvard years.

so it must be when he went to school college in LA and NY,
of which there is also no mention of pakistan.

Or is there something ‘more’ to this (Clinton minions about to ‘release’ another photo, etc?) and this is preemptive?

I guess that is where his typical white mother and grandparents thought he should go on vacation.

In other words he'll be choosing a Democrat.

It's like the goofy "Experience" you list on your first resume after college - "I ran the pool concession stand where I was also a lifeguard..."

How did you get a copy of my 1st resume? That was years ago and I thought all copies of that were destroyed long ago...LOL

He’s actually citing a college vacation as foreign policy experience.

But was he being shot at by snipers?

“He’s actually citing a college vacation as foreign policy experience.”

That’s common for elite Democrats. I’m not kidding. Heard all sorts of that in 2004 and 2000, generally to praise themselves and to position themselves above Bush who hadn’t travelled to Europe.

“Obama: I Traveled To Pakistan In College”

Shouldn’t the question be raised if he attended an AQ training camp and for how long?

“The press will pump him up, but Obama running for president is absolutely ridiculous. He’s actually citing a college vacation as foreign policy experience.”

I think this could be far worse than using a vacation as “experience.” I wonder what he was doing in Pakistan. I find it odd that his travels abroad seem to be in Muslim countries.

I just read a lot of that linked article.

Did you notice this? It's in the section where Obama's about to join a church :

After many lectures like this, Obama decided to take a second look at Wright's church. Older pastors warned him that Trinity was for "Buppies"--black urban professionals--and didn't have enough street cred. But Wright was a former Muslim and black nationalist who had studied at Howard and Chicago, and Trinity's guiding principles--what the church calls the "Black Value System"--included a "Disavowal of the Pursuit of Middleclassness.'"
Reverend Wright " was a former Muslim"???? Anyone ever seen THAT before? Interesting, too, the way it's written...as if his being a former Muslim was of particular importance to Obama. Sure would like to know why the author wrote it that way....

Ages ago I ran into a Canadian in West Germany who'd been traveling all over the place. He'd started out in Russia, bought a bunch of clothes, and went on to India and Pakistan.

He was invariably identified as a Russian due to the peculiarities (in those days) of Russian men's non-dress shirts.

He told me to NEVER RIDE THE TRAINS THERE.

Every now and then we'd get a train in that belonged to the Turkish railway systems and you'd get a whiff of what happens in the East. Never forget it.
