Yep, that seems to be the case with everyone I’ve talked to. Even if their page is still there, the code is gone on the edit page. A casualty of John’s upgrade, I’m afraid. :-(
LOL!!!
I just found a cached copy of it on Google.com, and saved it aside in case you want the html source to recreate it. Let me know if you need it.
Wow - I can’t thank you enough for doing this! If you look at the page, you’ll see it is quite important to me.
I wouldn’t have thought to get an archived copy of it.
I am sending my email address in a Freepmail.
Thanks again!
I googled freerepublic.com Mama_Bear and did get my profile page, but when I clicked on the cached link, nothing came up. But, that search was sure a fun trip down memory lane. I also found a few posts from 2004 (for some reason) along with a reference to an FR post where my screen name was mentioned on some democrat message board. LOL.
Were you able to locate the HTML code on google? If so, would you mind telling me... very slowly, lol... how to find it.
My profile page is so complex, I hate to lose everything.
Yes, I found my profile page on google, but it is still here on FR. It hasn't disappeared....yet. Nothing came up when I clicked on the "cached" link.
Earlier today I did save my profile page html code by going into "view source" on my browser. It gave me the option of saving it in a Notepad file as a .txt document. If you do that, and need to restore your page from the view source code, you will have to remove John's code at the top and bottom and only replace YOUR code in the edit box.
I hope that helps.
I have saved the code on your page. If it disappears, freepmail me and I will send you your code. :-)
Thanks!
I still wish that the latests posts showed up as “Brief” and that there was no extended lastest posts, ie “Comments.” I have to click “Comments” at the bottom of an article page, and then I have to click on “Brief” to see the lastest posts the way we used to see them. Lots of extra clicking!
Psssttt.....John, while you are at it, you might also fix the mail status. When I reply to mail now it doesn’t change to “Replied”, it still says “Read”. Just a small thing, probably not all that important as priorities go, but if it is an easy fix, could you put that on your ‘to do’ list? Thanks. ;-)
It wasn't broken, it didn't need "fixing."
Thanks! Freepmailed ya. Where did you find the code?
Somewhere along the way you seem to have fixed the character encoding issue as well. Before it was reporting charset utf-8
which caused all those ugly diamonds to show up on my Firefox. Now you’re reporting latin1 which works. Nice job.
It's in the "view source" option on my browser. Any page on the internet can be viewed as html code by clicking on that option. I went to your page and clicked on "view source" and the code came up in a Notepad page. :-)
I just made a copy of it on my computer, so it wouldn't get lost. Let me know if you want it.
You can find it, for a while, in the Google cache, by searching on Google.com for:
site:freerepublic.com LucyT(That "site:" prefix isn't always needed, depending on how unique your FR name is, but it helps in some cases.)
When you do that search, the first hit you will see is a nicer looking variant of:
LucyTClick on the cached link of that first hit, and you will see the most recently cached copy of your FR profile page in Google. They update these fairly frequently, sometimes within minutes or hours, so you have to move quickly to recover something this way.
LucyT. Since Sep 18, 2005. view home page, enter name:. ~ About ~ Links ~ Contact ~ In Forum ~. Return. Haha. No sarcasm tag needed:. John McCain: ...

Thank you for all your hard work. Don’t forget to wear your safety goggles when swinging that hammer!
Some Freepers are getting a popup warming about a website certificate:
The certificate pop up says:

A suggestion......... go to your profile page, put the cursor in a blank spot, right click, select ‘view source’, it will open in another page [notebook]. That is the html code for your home page. Copy the code applicable to your home page, save it to a word document on your computer, save a backup copy on a disc and you have it. Your part will start after the < /table> entry.... Any changes you make in the future, just copy and save again.
Thank you. I’m going to save your post for future reference. The actual photos are saved in file, and mama_bear is going to email the code.
