The soldier of the ISAF mission in Afghanistan, led by Mladen Kruljac, were surprised by the fact that Bush shook hands will all 50 of them.

ZAGREB, CROATIA - As a symbolic sign of support and gratitude, American President George Bush, wanted to spend last part of his visit in Croatia by taking photographs with the Croatian soldiers who are taking part in the ISAF peace mission in Afghanistan.

Before taking pictures in front of the American presidential airplane Air Force One, President Bush shook hands with all 50 soldiers who, all together with the Croatian diplomatic delegation, came to Zagreb’s airport in order to say goodbye the president who is off to Russia.

From Commander Kruljac, we found out that Bush’s gesture was a surprise for the soldiers themselves.

- We are proud that Croatia received the letter of call from NATO on Thursday, and it is an honour to us that President Bush has come to Croatia – said Krulajc, who shares the same opinion with the other soldiers.

Lieutenant Maja Cavlovic, commander of the military police of the Croatian Army in Afghanistan, said it was a great honour and pleasure to exchange a few words and to take pictures with Bush. She is only one of 200 members of the Croatian contingent in Afghanistan. However, this number will increase by one hundred this year, and by 2015, 400 more Croatian soldiers will be sent to Afghanistan.

That is the President I admire. He is truly grateful and appreciative of each and every individual that has volunteered for service as an ally. Each country in the coalition, from Canada to Mongolia to Croatia deserves our thanks and support.
