To conservatives, this wouldn’t help McCain. To independents and wishy-squishy moderates as well as right leaning Dems, she might seem OK.
Personally, I hope this doesn’t come to be. Too many Bush ties.

Well, before jumping off the cliff to offer an opinion sure to please few and anger many, I’ll point out that this is polar opposite of what Condi has always said and what others have sworn is true of her. She and others have said she does not aspire to elective office, period. And her dream job is NFL Commissioner.
The VP slot is used for adding something to the ticket. Born in Alabama - Will win that automatically. Lived in CA? - Won't win that no matter what. Black vote - No chance. Clarence Thomas indicates they hate a conservative black more than they hate a conservative white.
i think some of the complaints come from the fact she does not seem to be in control of State and the bureacracy in the first place. There is actually a DoS employee (or former) who posts here who made some excellent points about this some time back.
No thanks.
But why would anyone be under the dellusion that one person would have any control over anything as big Government.
This is not a private corporation where the CEO has the will to enforce everything.
Balance of power is our government for good or for bad. It means that bad people.. ignorant people can infect our policies and decisions.
Well, I can’t vote for her.
This happens...I quite voting for republicans altogether!
She gets a lot of bad mouthing here - but I like her.
I like the McCain / Rice ticket as much as anybody. This is his best VP pick...... None better
The decision to vote for McCain is pretty easy for me given the alternatives of Obama or (shudder) HRC. Rice would be a safe choice for McCain.
I disagree with both Mac and Rice (dinner?) on some important issues; I do not disagree with both of them on all important issues. I do, always and vehemently, disagree with O and Her Highness the Liar on every single issue of substance.
But, one could approach the election in a dialectic fashion, expect a disastrous term from O or HRC and see, in 4 or 8 years, a return to “true” conservative vitality.
That would be great if it were not just a dream that will not come true. And, the damage to the country in the interim is too daunting to contemplate.
We, I think, need to face the fact that the body politic has moved to the left. I’m not saying it’s permanent and I’m not saying just accept it. To the contrary, we need to fight it 24/7/365. It will return to a more acceptable attitude in time (so, I don’t discount the dialectic over time). However, let’s think now. We can make a lot of progress in certain areas especially on the right to life front, as opinions are changing on that for the better every day. Let’s choose battles we can win.
But, if we only look at FR and delude ourselves into thinking most folks feel the way we do, we may end up the best educated, most entertained, most informed people on the planet, but we will not have a president who is remotely in tune with our issues.
Remember, there are a lot of idiots out there, and if the average “Joe” or “Joanne” is ready for “change,” do you think the 49% of the population below them intellect-wise will think differently?
Ridge would be OK; he could maybe land Pennsylvania.
Bottom line for me is that I do not believe the American electorate is close to ready for a novice radical like Obama. HRC will never be elected. McCain will win regardless of his choice of VP.
I hope.
His choice of VP is important, however, given Mac’s age and the benefit of bringing a successor to the forefront.
McCain, though, is sadly egotistical, a bit rash, and thinks the press likes him (what a fool); he is so fond of his supposed unpredictability and maverick style that he might go off the plantation and out of politics to choose a businessperson as VP. That, I think, would be really bad. But, with Uncle Mac,it’s possible.
So, I hope he restrains that impulse. We must not let O or HRC win. The stakes are too high; our soldiers need our support.
I think a McCain/Rice ticket wins. It may be an empty or hollow victory for us, but it won’t weaken our nation to the extent a victory for the democrat party would.
Ms. Rice is about one step above Powell to me, and I hated that son of a gun.
Israel positions.. no need to say more.
I take a lot of flack for openly supporting McCain as an acceptable candidate. But put Rice, or another social moderate, as the Veep candidate and I’m going to be joining the fence-sitters wondering whether or not to cut our losses. It would be a sign of a candidate with either no intentions of healing realtions with Conservatives or just mind-bogglingly bad judgement in selecting people for key positions. This is a big decision, and to fill the second highest slot in the land with a Moderate would not be a sign of either good judgement or Conservative intentions.
I do not believe McCain to be this oblivious.
Rice is another catastrophe.
Her foreign policy achievements have been limited to pandering to Palestinians and throwing Israel under the bus.
Furthermore she lacks the economic experience McManiac needs to balance out his ticket.
I would not like to see nayone connected with that catastrophe in Washington put back into the White House in any capacity and McManiac selecting her as his VEEP should make any genuine conservative determined NOT to vote for McManiac.
If Bob Barr runs as a Libertarian, he is more likely to get my vote.
“Israel positions.. no need to say more.”

Yes. Frankly there is.
Please be specific. This poster for one, doesn’t believe half the people bashing Rice on this forum, even know much about her.
So state your objections. Now, and clear.
Thanks in advance.
“Anyone who says anything different has the intellegence of a 2 year old and needs to be ignored.”
Not to mention their naivete in demanding that someone waltz in and clean out Froggy Bottom—”Condi hasn’t done that! She’s a loser, never gonna vote for her!” (etc.).
Washington is a place where spiritual forces prevent easy dismantling of ANYTHING!
Worse VP choices have been made. Much worse.
Do I think McCain will pick her? Dunno -- the reports say she's the one pulling for the job.
