Sometime, within the next twelve to eighteen months, the average circulation of the weekday edition of the New York Times will drop below one million.
This event marks the continuing decline in the fortunes of what had been the U.S. newspaper of record as the New York Times' average circulation has been well above this level for decades.

The graph is revealing. The dropoff in NYT circulation is due entirely to dropoff in readership in NYC and surrounding area. The circulation outside NYC has actually increased slightly.
The decline may be due to people in NYC switching to competing newspapers, rather than the internet. If people in liberal NYC are getting tired of the biased reporting, the Times is really doomed.

I think it should be renamed “Rudy Square” to honor the man who saved it from seedy deterioriation and saw the city through the 9/11 cricis.

It's a pity that Abe Rosenthal is not at the helm of the New York Times right now. Rosenthal--unlike "Pinch" Sulzberger--understood the name recognition of the Times and strived very hard to keep the liberal bias in the only place where it properly belongs--the editorial pages.
