Buckley Remembered at St. Patrick's Cathedral By Fred Lucas CNSNews.com Staff Writer April 04, 2008
New York (CNSNews.com) - William F. Buckley, Jr. changed American politics and culture to a degree that many would call him incomparable. Still, Henry Kissinger found a comparison when commemorating Buckley at a crowded St. Patrick's Cathedral Friday.
"He wrote as Mozart composed, with inspiration. Bill never needed a second draft," Kissinger, a former secretary of state, said during the memorial service for the icon of conservatism, journalism and politics. "Bill Buckley's conservatism is about the liberation of the human spirit," Kissinger said.
"All of us can give thanks for being here long enough to be in the providence of walking through part of our lives with this noble man," Kissinger said in concluding his eulogy. "He was truly touched by the grace of God."
Buckley, the founder of National Review magazine, former host of PBS's "Firing Line," author of more than 50 books (fiction and non-fiction), and one-time mayoral candidate in New York City, died in the study of his Stamford, Conn., home while working on his latest book.
Buckley is viewed by many as a founding father of modern conservatism, upon whose shoulders both the losing Barry Goldwater campaign of 1964 and the triumphant Ronald Reagan revolution of the 1980s were built.

I grew up on this guy. He will be surely missed!

He is one of this country's greatest men. If there's any justice in this world, he will go down in history as one of our nation's greatest men of letters and one of its most effective patriots. It's no exaggeration to say he is the "founding father" of the movement we are all part of.
I was in attendance. The Eulogies were given by Henry Kissinger and Christopher Buckley.
It was a a full Catholic mass, and even though I myself am not Catholic I found it to be a moving tribute to this remarkable man.
I suggest getting the 3/24/08 issue of National Review, which is dedicated entirely to WFB. In particular, read the article by Rob Long, about the problems Bill is causing St. Peter’s and staff up in Heaven. It is so funny!
that was a good article but I liked his son’s refections on going boating with his father - now that was funny....
But I thought he was an Anglican.?
Nope, a practicing Catholic, often attending the traditional Latin Mass in Connecticut.
I know...the memo from Saint Peter. Absolutely classic.

The Catholic Mass is BEAUTIFUL.....and the BEST send-off for ALL Catholics...not just rich and smart!!
cspan has the 1:30 hour service on file, but when I phoned to ask when it was going to be aired, I only got a “we think sometime next week” reply.
This morning I looked at the cspan sched for today and yesterday, and there was plenty of room to show it.
I believe that because it was a Mass, the libs who schedule cspan are trying to hide it.
NB: I refuse to capitalize cspan as my personal protest of their partisan pettiness.
c-span has become just another outlet for the libs.
