Dems Signal Lost Hope in Ending War

WASHINGTON, (AP) -- Democrats signaled on Friday that they don't see much hope in ending the Iraq war this year so long as President Bush insists U.S. troops remain committed there in large numbers.

But party leaders wrote to Bush on Friday anyhow, telling him it's not too late to change course and pleading with him not to leave the war for the next president to handle.

"We are deeply concerned that you and the congressional Republican leadership are intent on staying the current course throughout your administration and then handing the Iraq war off to future presidents," the Democrats wrote.

Others said they hope to see continued efforts to force troop withdrawals, but acknowledged they were unlikely to succeed.

"I expect most of our troops to still be there" come the end of the year, said Sen. Carl Levin, chairman of the Armed Services Committee.

"Until there's either a big enough majority in the Senate or a change in the president's (approach), I don't see a significant improvement situation improvement in Iraq," he later added, in a conference call with reporters on Friday.

Sen. Joseph Biden, chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee, in the same conference call predicted that the situation in Iraq will grow considerably worse by September "because the administration seems to have no political game plan."

Democrats are engaged in a full-court press against Bush's Iraq policy in advance of next week's testimony by Gen. David Petraeus, the top military commander in Iraq, and Ryan Crocker, the U.S. ambassador there. Petraeus and Crocker are expected to say the recent buildup in troops has succeeded in improving security. But, they also will say that a period of assessment is needed this summer before officials can decide whether troop withdrawals can continue.

Whadda buncha maroons. How many times have they “given up” on ending the war. They lose and lose and lose and the media gives them a pass for losing. Loozers!

I don’t see how a dem president could pull out, if it was obvious that victory was at hand. They need to blame Bush, so they can explain things when they don’t follow through on a pull out.

BTW, AQ tried to pull off a mini “tet-offensive” in the North in the last couple of weeks. You never heard about it, because AH-64’s killed everyone before they could do anything. More at strategypage.com.

Democrats acting like an Al Qaeda auxiliary again, desperately trying to assure defeat for the US and chaos in the Middle East.

Wow. We all know darn well that if the Dems win the White House, for anything good they will take full credit but for anything bad they will blame Bush. Even 20 years from know they will still blame Bush.

The amazing part here is how actively and blatantly they are laying the ground work for their Blame Bush game plan.

They know darn well that the Iraq war is critical to our survival. The will not surrender and retreat immediately if they win the Whiye House. They know that all of their anti-war rhetoric is crap and they spew it for the soul purpose of lathering up their moronic base.

Now that they may gain power and get called on it, they must do some serious damage control. It’s amazing that they are actually starting now.

“We are deeply concerned that you and the congressional Republican leadership are intent on staying the current course throughout your administration and then handing the Iraq war off to future presidents,” the Democrats wrote. “

Bush to Dems: surrender on your own time.

Only our radical leftist Dems could wave the white flag, sign a formal surrender, and still get wiped out. They are as bad as the French...or worse. Such a useful group of “people” to America and its core values.

The Dems know they won't be able to pull out of Iraq without coming off as dismal failures. They'd love it if they could pressure Bush to do so before he leaves office so they can blame him.

I'm glad Bush has a strong backbone when it comes to certain things.

Shouldn't the headline read:

"Dems Signal Ending Hope in Losing the War."

****Levin and Biden also reiterated calls for the administration to release publicly a new classified intelligence assessment on Iraq. The report is said to be similar to the last assessment, delivered in August, which shows that significant security progress has been made. Many of the conclusions of the report are already reflected in public statements and press reports, U.S. officials said.****

They want the report out now so they can get the positives behind them and then build back the negatives by election time.

"......and pleading with him not to leave the war for the next president to handle."

Sounds like the Leftists are concerned they may have to fight or run --- knowing they'll run.

The $%&^%&#$ also assume a Democrat will be President.....
I think not......

Times are too dangerous to put a leftist America hating black racist or a Clinton rapist enabler in the White House...

You do not "End" a war in the manner sought by democrats. Wars end in defeat, victory, or a negotiated peace. They do not "end" because you desert your ally and leave them to suffer the consequences.

The democrats constantly missuse terminology. In this case, "the war" is made out to be the problem and "ending it" a solution. In reality, the problems are Iraqi stability, the Middle East, terrorism, World oil supply, Iran, etc. They will only be dealt with by defeating terrorist and anti Western elements in Iraq.
