(CNN) In a campaign season growing more heated by the day, one word keeps making an appearance: chill.
This morning, Sen. Tom Harkin an undeclared superdelegate became the latest politician to call for a cooldown, telling reporters on a conference call reported by Radio Iowa that former President Bill Clinton needs to chill out.
A local journalist asked about a report of an alleged Clinton meltdown during a private meeting with California superdelegates, and asked whether he was doing his wife Hillary Clinton's campaign more harm than good.
"I'm not going to judge that," responded Harkin. "I did say before he ought to chill out a little bit and from what I've seen I think he has, but again this recent thing in California, I don't know."
Harkin isn't the first congressional Democrat to call for a freeze on tough trail talk. Shortly before the Super Tuesday primary contests, Rep. James Clyburn told CNN the former president should lower the temperature on his campaign rhetoric.
. I think they would say in Gullah-Geechee country, he needs to chill a little bit. I hope he understands what that means, said Clyburn. I can understand him wanting to defend his wife's honor and his own record, and that is to be expected. But you can't do that in a way that won't engender the kind of feelings that seem to be bubbling up as a result of this.

Now that everyone is getting burned out on “hope” and “change,” I was wondering what the next big buzzword would be. I guess “chill” is as good as any.
So why didn’t Harkin say that in 1999?
Commie Tommy taught Bill and Hill a lot. Helped them win the WH in the first place. If he’s telling them to “chill,” they’ve got a problem.
Yeah Bill, better put some ice on that.
OR "you should put some ice on that."
Harkin better watch his back crossing these two mobsters, or he might end up in “permanent chill”: in cold storage at the local morgue.
I love to see the Clinton’s being rejected by the useful idiots.
re: big chill out
Somehow all the Demagogues seem to still belong in a movie like “The Big Chill” about a bunch of tired old leftover ‘60s pseudo-leftist wannabes.
Harkin is a douchebag in the same vein as Keith Olberman.
This guy is an embarrassing joke.
Ugly, ugly, ugly excuse for a man.
They don’t call him “Dung Heap” Harkin for nothin’.
LLS
The first night his cell- mate would flip a coin to see who was the wife for the night.
I’m not done laughing at the “defending his wife’s honor”
What honor does Hillary Clinton have?????
