Congressman Emanuel Cleaver: Whites like 'articulate' Barack Obama
Chicago Sun-Times ^ | April 1, 2008

Posted on 04/02/2008 7:34:07 PM PDT by george76

A congressman backing Hillary Rodham Clinton says white voters are supporting Barack Obama based on the view that he is articulate and his election would allow the nation ‘‘to get this boogeyman called race behind us.’’

Missouri Rep. Emanuel Cleaver, who is black, told Canadian Broadcasting Corporation that Obama ‘‘is articulate. In the black tradition, he would probably be mediocre.’’

‘‘For white Americans, it’s like, this guy can speak,’’ Cleaver said in the radio interview. ‘‘If you put him on a level with a lot of other African-American public speakers, he may not even measure up.’’

But Cleaver also conceded in the interview that he thinks Obama will win the White House.

Cleaver represents a majority white congressional district in Kansas City where Obama won a majority of the vote in Missouri’s presidential primary. He is the only ordained minister in Congress and still preaches every Sunday at his mostly black Kansas City church.

Cleaver said he was ‘‘outraged over the outrage’’ at the controversy over Obama’s former pastor, who was criticized for making racially charged comments in church sermons. Cleaver praised Obama’s Chicago church for having a ‘‘long and rich history of being involved in the betterment of the Chicago black community.’’

Last year, Sen. Joe Biden, D-Del., was criticized when he called Obama ‘‘the first mainstream African-American who is articulate and bright and clean and a nice-looking guy.’’

Oh yeh...he's a smooth operator orator....never mind the lack of content in those silky-smooth words. BJ Clinton got elected in '92 because he too was Slick with words like O-blah-ma.

—Sometimes, the truth is painful to listen to....suck it up.—

Ronald Reagan spoke the the truth, and he spoke it *eloquently.* Listening to Reagan speak was—and is—like listening to music. Suck THAT up!

“white voters are supporting Barack Obama based on the view that they are guilty of committing the ‘sin’ of, well, being white!”

There, fixed it!

If they elect Obama they can put their guilt — of being white (see racist)— behind them.

So lets see, some white people — in order to prove that they are not racist — are going to vote for a racist!

Some sick puppies out there.

He speaks well for a white man, oh, a black man, uhh ... damn, what race is he?

He’s as white as my kids, so why is he a black candidate?

He went to an exclusive private school in Hawaii while living with his white grandparents.

There is a similarity with Bill Clinton; raised by his grandfolks when his mother was out of the picture.

Oddly, the “white folks’ greed” line and the Haiti reference do not appear in the seemingly official version of the sermon.

But Obama has them in his book within quotation marks.

As mayor of KC, Cleaver did quite a great job of bringing back a level of corruption not seen in the city government since the old Pendergast days (Harry Truman was known as "The Senator from Pendergast").

The corruption and taxes were the reason I moved out of Kansas City, MO, to a nearby city, work in yet another city, and to this day, do my best to keep from paying any sales taxes in Kansas City, MO.

Yes, to Barack H. Obama, Rev, Wright and L. Farrakahn any form of their racism by blacks is OK, wealth, big homes, etc for them is OK. But whites should be the new slaves to have the products of their “greed” redistributed to those who don’t work or even to pay for the big homes of the radical black leadership. If this is enacted, it will succeed like it did in Africa when whites had their farms stolen and then the rest starved. The non-productive can never be more prosperous than the productive.

Well, I suppose we can demand that our politicians all make movies before running for office...

I agree “W” is not a public orator...
But then - nobody has every claimed him to be..

On the other hand — we’re being asked to believe Obama of the silver tongue is a orator on the level of Lincoln and MLK with a genius grasp of the “issues”...

To date -— no evidence of that..

No, but it would be nice if they could speak extemporaneously (that means “off the cuff” for you folks in Rio Linda) without acting like a 10th grader who hasn’t done his homework.

I never said Obama was any of those things. I just wish we had a POTUS who doesn’t make you wince when he holds a press conference.

affirmative action ...?

A congressman backing Hillary Rodham Clinton says white voters are supporting Barack Obama based on the view that he is articulate and his election would allow the nation ‘‘to get this boogeyman called race behind us.’’

Missouri Rep. Emanuel Cleaver, who is black, told Canadian Broadcasting Corporation that Obama ‘‘is articulate. In the black tradition, he would probably be mediocre.’’

I heard this j@ck@$$ on Fox last night, and he is dead wrong about "white voters are supporting Barack Obama". Most I know think BO is a *&^%$#& *&&%$#*. The reason I cannot vote for him is that he is a liberal socialist. Same for hill, except she is a liberal facist.
