Maybe since the child is a 13yr old female who was humiliated with a strip search, they assumed that she'd want her mother because of the sensitive nature of what happened.

Not that her father couldn't have comforted her but 13 is tough and talking with your mom is bad enough! LOL

Dad's may not be much on the tenderness and affection thing, but the comfort she could have gotten from her father was the satisfaction of watching him beat them to a bloody pulp when he found out what happened.
