Just out of curiosity, why doesn’t Boeing offer as good a deal as Airbus does? You’d think that a patriotic American would.

Why does .gov outsource contracts to foreign governments...especially when they see that .gov has made it cheaper for foreign governments/corporations to make money in “free” trade?

Northrop/EADS offered a better, more functional plane, which will be built in the U.S. and is already being used by our CLOSE allies in the UK and Australia. Boeing's reaction? They start waving the flag, raising specters of the French (horrors!)

“Today, 149 countries use the border-subsidy-and-tax scheme to discriminate against U.S. products “

It’s a NEW SPORT! Kick the US

Outsourcing defense contracts

By Duncan Hunter

March 28, 2008

As American forces confront the global terrorist threat on the battlefields of Afghanistan and Iraq, an equally serious threat exists here at home with the continuous outsourcing and erosion of our defense industrial base. The deterioration of our domestic defense industries, which helped carry us to victory in World War II and the Cold War, represents one of the greatest challenges to our security and the future success of our military forces.

Despite this fact, the list of U.S. defense contracts awarded to foreign competitors continues to grow, most recently with the addition of the French- and German-controlled European and Aeronautic Defense and Space Company (EADS) as the proposed manufacturer of the Air Force’s next refueling tanker. The initial $35 billion contract for 179 aircraft was awarded to EADS over the U.S.-based Boeing Co., a leading competitor in the aerospace industry that has built and supported the Air Force’s tanker fleet since the Eisenhower administration.

In 2005, the Navy chose an international group primarily composed of British and Italian manufacturers to build the next presidential helicopter, even though Sikorsky Aircraft, an American defense contractor, had manufactured the familiar Marine One helicopter since the Eisenhower years. Only several months earlier, the Brazilian jet maker Embraer was awarded a $6 billion contract to build the new Aerial Common Sensor reconnaissance aircraft.

you are correct....it was a level playing field, and the better product at the best price and delivery won the day......and it was an “off the shelf” item at that, not a “frankenbird”, untried and unproven...

yeez I don’t know ... maybe they didn’t - a french company called EADS doesn’t even exist.

Maybe she means http://www.northropgrumman.com/ ? But that’s not really from france !?!

Have a look at their homepage ! Gee it looks like a tanker aircraft...

There’s a european aircraft manufacturer teaming up with the guys above - it’s called airbus and they are french and german and british.

They again belong to a dutch company - and they are called EADS - and of course they are partially french also - and spain has something to do with them either.

These tankers are based on a plane developed in germany, france and britain and the USA and will be manufactured in the USA although parts may come from france, germany, italy, spain, britain and some more countries.

“The indignation of Americans is growing rapidly about the U.S. Air Force granting a French company a $35 billion tanker-aircraft contract”

Northrup-Grumman is French? Isn’t this a joint venture?

If Boeing hadn’t cheated the system a couple of years ago, they would have kept the original contract.

They have nothing to blame but their own corruption and greed.

According to pissant's posted article....it's a French and German comapny:

One the left (D party) we have Marxist globalists and on the right (R party) we have corporate globalists. Sadly none of our ruling elites put the interests on America ahead of the plan to build a globalist New World Order. The New World Order will either be a Marxist totalitarian state or a fascist totalitarian corporate state. Either way we are screwed.

Northrup Grumman is a storied US company, but they are the minority partner in the arrangement with EADS on this project.

That doesn’t take away from the fact that the U.S. government should NOT be hiring FOREIGN companies to provide for the common defense of Americans....nor should have .gov been setting up situations that allow for the decimation of U.S. existing U.S. companies....or policies which have effectively created disincentives for the creation of and/or improvement of U.S. companies.
