Carter ‘quite at ease’ about meeting Hamas’ head
Published: 04.13.08, 16:01 / Israel News

Former US President Jimmy Carter, broker of the first Israeli-Arab peace treaty, is getting a cool reception on his latest mission to the region: Israeli leaders are shunning him for accusing the Jewish state of apartheid and planning to meet with the head of the violently anti-Israel Hamas group.

Ahead of his arrival in Israel, Carter said he feels “quite at ease” about meeting Hamas militants. “I think there’s no doubt in anyone’s mind that if Israel is ever going to find peace with justice concerning the relationship with their next-door neighbors, the Palestinians, that Hamas will have to be included in the process,” he said. Lonely Planet guidebook author admits he made it all up

A writer for the Lonely Planet guidebook series has admitted he either copied or made up large sections of his books.

Thomas Kohnstamm worked on more than a dozen guides, including the titles on Brazil, Colombia, South America, the Caribbean, Venezuela and Chile.

In one case he said he had not even visited the country he was writing about.

"They didn't pay me enough to go to Colombia. I wrote the book in San Francisco," he says in a biography Do Travel Writers Go To Hell?

"I got the information from a chick I was dating - an intern at the Colombian consulate."
