Five wanted individuals, 20 other suspects detained
BAGHDAD Coalition forces captured five wanted individuals and 20 additional suspects during operations targeting the al-Qaeda in Iraq foreign terrorist and car bombing networks Friday and Saturday.
Coalition forces captured an alleged foreign terrorist facilitator and three additional suspected AQI terrorists in northwest Iraq Friday. The wanted man is believed to be responsible for coordinating the movement of terrorists into Iraq from several countries.
Saturday, operations in Mosul and Sharqat targeted a foreign terrorist facilitation network. Coalition forces captured three wanted individuals believed to help terrorists link up with AQI operations and leadership cells. The ground force also detained 13 additional suspects. During one operation in Mosul, Coalition forces used explosives to breach a door, igniting some materials within the target building. Iraqi emergency units responded and extinguished the fire.
In Sharqat, a vehicle with two suspected terrorists inside refused to stop for Coalition forces. Coalition forces were forced to engage the vehicle in order to stop it, wounding one suspected terrorist. The wounded suspected terrorist was taken to a military medical facility for treatment and has been detained, along with the other suspected terrorist in the vehicle.
Elsewhere in Baghdad, Coalition forces captured an alleged enabler and two additional suspects believed to be involved in the Baghdad car bombing network during two coordinated raids in the city Saturday.
Iraqis have chosen a future without terrorism, and they refuse to welcome foreign criminals who seek to disrupt their countrys future, said Cmdr. Scott Rye, MNF-I spokesman.
