Inasmuch as the Cold War was Worldwide in scope and therefore a world war, we are already involved in the next one. Iraq is very much an analogue of Vietnam in that respect. We are trying to keep Iran from overwhelming the Middle East. This Cold War II has been going on really since 1979 and the Ayatollah unpleasantness of that year. As with Cold War I there is always the prospect of this all heating up to a full blown worldwide War. There is probably less prospect of that if we take care of Iran massively and finally very soon.

It “feels” like a world war is coming. Though I think Iran will be the center of it, not Kosovo.

The only way the Russians could even hurt us was if they launched all their ICBM’s today. Without total surprise, we’d crush them in any fight. Our technology superiority gives us a first strike capability that would strip them of their nuclear delivery capacity. Their bombers are jokes. Their nuclear missile subs are no match for Navy. And stealth combined with cruise missiles and JDAMS would destroy the ICBM’s in their silos. More mobile missiles don’t have the range and can be shot down by our missile defenses. Their army is a joke — in Grozny a bunch of Islamic idiots shredded a Russian battalion in a few days. Compare that to US forces who shred Islamic idiots without hurting the civilians hidden aroudn them. Their navy is a rusting radioactive junkpile — useful only for stealing money from India and China. Their air force flies the planes that US made planes have played target practice with for three decades.

Only Serbian idiots think that Russia will come to their aid with anything more than talk.

And no, there’s no way we can blame Serbia for Iran. Serbia would have to actually matter on the world stage. They only matter when they face unarmed neighbors or quiet Austrian princes out on a peaceful drive. They may be the only people that make a Jihadi seem brave and intelligent.

The first shots are usually fired by the ones who consider it their advantage at the time.

If that comes, the independence of Kosovo will be the watershed moment.

You don't make a convincing case for this. The conditions that caused WWI no longer exist. Kosovo may be of personal importance to you, but it is not the sort of stuff on which world wars are built.

World wars are built on the aspirations of aggressive conquering nations who have delusions of invincibility ... modern countries such as Iran or China can cause world wars; Kosovo cannot -- who would be the opposing sides?

Please. Serbia was no victim of War War 2. A bunch of thugs, the Black Hand, assinated their way into a getting a pliant Serb King and then tried to destroy the Austro-Hungarian Empire through additional murder.
Serbia could have prevented war by turning over those involved.
Russia, France and Serbia chose war.

I think the author misses a key point in terms of where "the game" is really being played between Washington, Brussels, Moscow, and Beijing.

More specifically, the the game that's being played out between these competing forces is the control of Central Asia.

That is, look at Uzbekistan (or Turkmenistan) and the natural resources that are associates with those countries (unlike Kosovo). Obviously, both China and Russia are chief stakeholders in this game as well as the US and the EU. - think about it.

Another Clinton legacy that nobody ever talks about. WHen will the troops be pulled from that place? Instead of protesting the war/police action at present in Iraq the idiots at code pinky should be protesting over Kosovo.

I would opine that we are already fighting it. And losing. Oh we are killing a bunch of them over thre but they are making great inroads over here. They have, for all practical purposes, taken over Europe including the United Kingdom. In the United States they are getting special accomodations just about every time they ask. In the United States their population is fast reaching the flash point at which time they will start killing and blowing things up. Our Nation can be likened to the voyage of the Titanic. The United States is the Titanic. The Captian and crew are the politicans [we no longer, in my opinion, have individuals that can be defined as leaders]. The passengers are the general population. The ice bergs are the muslims. The Captain is sailing full speed ahead into the ice berg ignoring the ice bergs public and openly stated objective to takeover the World, convert or kill [mostly kill] all infidels, and establish Sheria Law. The passengers are going merrily on their was, deliberately oblivious to their peril. In addition to that we have a currency that is in and of itself worth nothing. But that is another story.

No. The Arab tribes and their lackeys such as Iran who are trying to get general war going are having no success whatsoever. Nobody else is interested in having a general war at this time.
