CBS reeling from disappointing earning in the last quarter has done some layoffs, at the corporate level, and separate from that, at some local O&O stations.
On corporate level, TVNewser reports that CBS News has made cuts in to editorial, technical operations and the bureaus.
CBS owns 29 stations, including 16 CBS affiliates ...

...and yet Katie Couric remains.
CBS Corp. reported a 14.6% decline in fourth-quarter earnings.
The share price is down 19% so far this year.
One has to wonder what would happen if they
-replaced Katie with a really HOT guy
-slanted their news to the “center” instead of the extreme far left as they’ve done for years. Even better if they leaned a little to the RIGHT, just for kicks.
You would think CBS would have learned something from Fox News. (Only Fox News is starting to lean to the left. Apparently haven’t enjoyed their success).
The CBS news division goes dark on Jan 1st 2010, is my guess.
They’ll get a Democrat elected now or get a democrat House for the midterms, if they fail at both they cost/benefit analysis will determine that they aren’t getting enough Democrats elected for the dollar, and they’ll shutter the “news” division.
She’s really `perky’.
See what happen when you mess with informative internet news forum your news organization get whack
Don Imus: “So what do you think of these changes at CBS News?”
Andy Rooney: “Im not enthusiastic about it. I think everybody likes Katie Couric, I mean how can you not like Katie Couric.
But, I dont know anybody at CBS News who is pleased that shes coming here.”
lol... you got it!
14 let go at KPIX in San FRan, mostly newsroom workers
Unless the whole staff at c.bs. jumps of a roof somewhere then I’m not watching them.
Well if you mess with the Freeper you get whack GOD nobody learn from Dan Rather he lost his career over that
A couple of years ago I threw away the tv, so I may be part of the problem.
Wonder if the guy who negotiated her contract is still there? How about the guy who said “Let’s get Katie!”
;>)
Aw, they just felt awful lonesome out there by themselves.
And their people like to be on the "A" cocktail lists, just like the good folks at ABC,CBS,NBC,CNN etc.
Instead of cutting the budget by getting rid of the useless talking head who has been dragging the evening news further into oblivion, the cuts are made in the actual meat of the operation (such as it is). Figures. Thanks george76.

Major Layoffs at CBS O&Os
WBZ Boston Appears to Be Hardest-Hit; KPIX San Francisco Bloodied, Too
By Michael Malone — Broadcasting & Cable, 4/1/2008 11:12:00 AM
Heavy layoffs are being reported at the CBS owned-and-operated stations, including 30 staffers at WBZ Boston, 17 at WBBM Chicago and 14 at KPIX San Francisco.
As of this writing, the CBS station group has not returned calls for comment.
WBZ appears to have been hit hardest; the Boston Herald said the layoffs were across the board, hitting the newsroom, the Web unit, sales, the engineering department and promotions. Some employees were swiftly escorted out the door by security, sources said. WBZ has not yet returned calls for comment.
WBBMs cuts included anchor Diann Burns, whom the Chicago Sun-Times called a cornerstone of a station rebuild. Other talent to be let go included sports anchor Mark Malone and reporters Mary Ann Childers, Katie McCall and Rafael Romo, the Sun-Times reported.
Among KPIXs casualties were veteran reporters Bill Schechner and Manny Ramos, whom the San Francisco Chronicle called Bay-area icons. Ramos, who had been at KPIX for 28 years, told the Chronicle, “When I walked in, they told me it was going to be a bad day in the newsroom. Then they told me it was going to be a bad day for me, too.”
KPIX has made digital a focus, hiring full-time blogger Brittney Gilbert to manage a blog aggregator that launched earlier this year. The station was fourth in 2006 revenue in the San Francisco DMA, according to BIA Financial Networks.
KPIX did not respond to requests for comment at press time.
WCBS New Yorks layoffs included veteran correspondents Scott Weinberger and Andrew Kirtzman, according to published reports. The station is also shelving its Sports Sunday program, the New York Daily News reported.
Also hit were KCNC Denver and KOVR Sacramento, Calif., and perhaps others. CBS owns 29 stations, including 16 CBS affiliates and nine CW outlets.
