WASHINGTON (March 31, 2007) A new poll using neutral language finds that primary and caucus voters have little knowledge of candidates immigration positions. The results also show that voters often do not share their candidates position.
Among the findings:
Only 34 percent of McCain voters, 42 percent of Clinton voters, and 52 percent of Obama voters correctly identified their candidate as favoring eventual citizenship for illegal immigrants who meet certain requirements.
Of McCain voters, 35 percent mistakenly thought he favored enforcement that would cause illegals to return home, another 10 percent thought he wanted mass deportations, and 21 percent didnt know his position.
Voters often held different positions from the candidate they supported. Only 31 percent of McCain voters had the same immigration position as he does. For Clinton voters, 45 percent shared her position; 61 percent of Obama voters shared his position.
This lack of knowledge, coupled with disagreements with their candidates positions, makes it very difficult to draw any conclusions about the fact that all three remaining candidates favor legalization for illegal immigrants.
Whoever wins the presidency will face significant opposition to giving eventual citizenship to illegal immigrants. Just 25 percent of Republican and 50 percent of Democratic primary/caucus voters said they would support such an effort.
Pro-enforcement voters have a greater intensity of views than supporters of legalization. Among Republicans, almost nine out ten who favored causing illegals to return home said they strongly supported that view; on the other hand, fewer than half of Republicans who backed legalization strongly supported that view.
This greater intensity also exists among Democrats. Of Democrats who favored causing illegals to return home, more than seven out of ten strongly supported that view; on the other hand, fewer than six out of ten who favored legalization strongly supported that view.
Methodology: The survey of 1,276 persons who voted in a primary or caucus was conducted March 12-13. The survey was conducted by Pulse Opinion Research.

McCain is hiding his position behind double talk. He needs to be outed.
Don't listen to McCain's politically motivated promises of the moment: observe his actions. This is the man John McCain chose to be his "Hispanic Outreach Director." Hernandez is a certified traitor. Born in Dallas, he decided as an adult to become a dual-national Mexican citizen. His last "real" job was serving on Mexican President Vicente Fox's cabinet as his "American Reconquista Director." After that gig ran out, he worked (sic) for George Soros funded internationalist foundations, like the one that published his new book.
The "New American Pioneers" proclaimed in his book are the illegal alien invaders he urges to become settlers in the USA. Hernandez believes all Mexicans and Mexican-Americans in the USA should become dual citizens and consider themselves Mexicans first, "to the 8th generation." He believes there should be no border at all between Mexico and the USA, ever.
And this is the man McCain chose for his "Hispanic Outreach Director." In the past week McCain was asked about this choice, and he said he chose Hernandez because he agrees with his positions. If so, McCain is supporting invasion and reconquista.
Then I read our Constitution, Article 4 Section 4, where it says the federal government MUST protect the states from invasion, and I can only conclude one thing: John McCain is our new Benedict Arnold.

Least informed??
I’m calling BS on that claim!
We’re reminded every day.
Right here on FR.
I’m not surprised by what this article claims. I am surprised and disgusted by the “informed” members of FR who continue to support McCain.
McCain has never been for enforcement. Thats why he is my 5th choice for the Republican nomination.
Watch out, McCain supporters will call you a liar for telling the truth. McCain has Hernandez on his campaign team. Obama had Wright. Maybe it’s time to put some pressure on McCain to fire his pal.
As far as I am concerned mcnutts is just another rat and always has been.
McCain has never been for enforcement. Thats why he is my 5th choice for the Republican nomination.
Yes you know it and I know it but his statement that he heard the people and we want enforcement first doesn’t say what follow, thus confusing and misleading..until I see him sign in blood that he is against amnesty I still consider him for it-
And, just who would you like for FR members to support? Hillary, Obama, Nader??
Well, don’t blame us. We screamed bloody murder on this, as did Rush and Hannity and others. It’s those idiots that insist on voting without informing themselves on what the candidates stand for, instead of “they speak so nice” or they “served in the army”.
Actually, this reminds of a line out of the Screwtape letters, where screwtape says, “It is funny how mortals always picture us as putting things into their minds: in reality our best work is done by keeping things out.”
Ping!
“Least informed??”
I think brain dead would be a more appropriate term.
I’ve been screaming about McCain for over 10 years, it seems that I’ve been screaming into a vacuum.
“Yes you know it and I know it but his statement that he heard the people and we want enforcement first doesnt say what follow, thus confusing and misleading..until I see him sign in blood that he is against amnesty I still consider him for it-”
Even during the debate (such as at was) during the last attempt at CIR, the idea was floated that maybe “securing” the borders to the satisfaction of the governors was the way to prove that they were secure.
There were no other criteria: all the governor had to do was say “Yep, looks OK to me” and it was a done deal.
McCain is saying EXACTLY the same thing now.
“”Only 34 percent of McCain voters, 42 percent of Clinton voters, and 52 percent of Obama voters correctly identified their candidate as favoring eventual citizenship for illegal immigrants who meet certain requirements.....Of McCain voters, 35 percent mistakenly thought he favored enforcement that would cause illegals to return home, another 10 percent thought he wanted mass deportations, and 21 percent didnt know his position.”
People vote by what the MSM media pushes and they certainly didn’t inform voters. People like McCain count on ignorance, it’s their only means to power.
This is how McCain scores when people are informed.

Voters Unaware Of Candidates’ Immigration Positions - McCain Supporters Worst Informed
To me that makes nothing but common sense. Anyone who would vote for McCain has to be too stupid to know the facts about the sorry bastard.

Yes!
But he is for rolling out the welcome mat for even the worst of the lot.
Here are the Senators who voted against the Cornyn amendment , which would have established a permanent bar for gang members, terrorists, and other criminals looking to snag a shamnesty visa. Republicans underlined:
