Terri Schiavo's Family Calls for Observance of Terri's Day to Honor Disabled Woman
Life News ^ | 3/31/08 | Steven Ertelt

St. Petersburg, FL (LifeNews.com) -- Terri Schiavo's family and a leading pro-life group are calling on people to honor the disabled woman whose husband took her life in a painful euthanasia death. Together with Priests for Life, the Schindler family has established the observance of “Terri’s Day” each March 31.

That's the day Terri succumbed to a 13-day starvation and dehydration death at the hand of Michael Schiavo, her former husband who won a court order to take her life.

“This third anniversary should be an occasion for all of us to both remember the injustice done to Terri, and reach out to others with prayer and concrete action when they need the kind of help Terri needed," Terri's brother Bobby Schindler told LifeNews.com on Monday.

Suzanne Vitadamo, Terri’s sister, added that Terri's Day is also a way for her family to encourage others to take better care of the elderly and disabled.

“Our family continues to be consoled and uplifted by the many ways in which people honor my sister, learn from her story, and grow in compassion for all the disabled," she said.

During the days leading up to Terri's death, Father Frank Pavone of Priests for Life brought comfort and peace to the Schindler family.

Father Pavone was present for the final prayer Terri participated in before her death. He also saw the manipulative ways Michael tried to prevent the Schindler family from caring for her or being present with her during the starvation and dehydration.

“Terri’s death was not the end of her fight," he told LifeNews.com. "It was the beginning of a new chapter in the pro-life movement."

"I call upon all those who were moved by Terri’s death to continue their courageous activism in the cause of life, and never to be silent," he said.

Together, Priests for Life and the Terri Schindler-Schiavo Foundation encourage churches, families, organizations and individuals to observe Terri’s Day with prayers, memorial services, educational activities and community outreach.

Interestingly I just posted this on that thread:

Reminds me of the old feeble joke from long ago...

What is black and white and read all over? Answer: newspaper.

Now we can ask, what is black and white and red all over? Answer, Obama Nation

I just received this essay, encourage reading it through. Thanks, LesforLife.

....................................

Believing abortion is a stand-alone issue is like believing egg yolks appear by themselves without egg whites, shells, and male and female chickens. My greatest mistake as a pro-life person was in thinking Roe v. Wade arrived by itself. I didn't want to link abortion to other controversial subjects, which scared or confused me, detracting from the obvious atrocity of butchering a living, unborn child. Because of my narrow focus, I ignored the horrific world-view and the socio-political-financial machinery fueling abortion.

While reading the newspaper in May 1999, I noticed a headline about an evolution controversy occupying the Kansas State Board of Education. I flipped the page without reading the story. Like many pro-life people, I felt that the origin of the species was a matter of God's choice of methods--but not a pro-life concern. Busy in local pro-life matters, I believed evolution was an "education dispute," a controversy I could, gratefully, sit out. When a metro-area newspaper reporter sought my opinion on the proposed science standards, my cautious response was, having not read them, to remind the reporter that evolution in the wrong hands had supported the bloodiest regimes in history. The reporter urged me to read the science standards, assuring me there was "nothing to offend."..............

Just a friendly political reminder. I am CONCERNED that McSane is going to pick Charlie Crist for VP. This would be terrible for the country. Florida is in dire straits right now so the little bit of time Crist has been governor here, the state is totally blanked up.

He also stuck with the deathbots, gave Greer and Whittemore kudos for killing Terri for their not backing down! He gave a keynote speech for Greer and Whittemore. This death cult governor who would be McSane's VP did not just cause Terri suffering and death. Many Floridians are suffering of one sort or another.

CHARLIE CRIST FOR VP? Put a warning label on that idea. He's been acting very coy on cable news shows. No matter who wins in 09, we will have deathbot leadership. McCain would torture an innocent disabled woman but don't lay a feather on a terrorist.

Finally, just because someone has a living will or other document is no guarantee. A person's medical condition can be misinterpreted on purpose if a medical or hospice person takes an interest in a particular patient. Thus, the document can become a backing document when their condition is improperly diagnosed. The LIE is not in the end of life documents; it's in the patient's diagnosis, such as it is. Instructing family members or trusted friends to seek second opinions is very important. Having a health care surrogate is important too but that surrogate must be loyal to the patient and not be bendy and malleable when they hear all kinds of nonsense from the medical field or the court system.

Remember the young guy last month who was going to be turned into parts? He woke up. Wagglebee, I know you are no fan of My Name is Earl but he woke up last night from his minimally conscious state. He was aware before he woke up even though he didn't appear aware to observers. He got hit in the head with a ball and woke up. That means the show will be renewed for fall. :)

I posted earlier on Prof. Gey, a story of pathos, a stubborn refusal to come to terms with his maker even though Christians pray for him. Now he is getting tubes for feeding. I suspect he won't ask to be dehydrated.

This promises to be the first in a series by the St. Pete Times.

.................................

Some of Steven Gey's students have asked his permission to pray for him, to beg God to spare him, to pray for the only thing that may save him: an Old Testament, open-the-heavens miracle.

Gey has Lou Gehrig's disease. He is 52. His ability to move and speak, even to eat and breathe, has eroded for almost two years. The disease has begun to starve and strangle him. Several days ago, he was taken to the hospital for insertion of a feeding tube.

He has arrived at the moment when people start to talk to God.

His students, many of whom are conservative Christians, are watching him die. They'd like to help him start the conversation. But he won't.

Gey doesn't pray for anything. An American Civil Liberties Union attorney and law professor at Florida State University, he ranks among the nation's top defenders of separation of church and state, of scientific inquiry, of rationalist, non-Christian governance.................

Dajjal, thanks for the poster post. I slam Islam and more.

rant... It reminds me of that grim day coming with scary speed, as the system progresses, to November when we will find our new President to be commie lite, commie, or commie hard core, given the front runners of today.

I try to see it from the perspective of Terri's Legacy, who of them in either the dem branch of the socialist party or the RINO branch may show even a flicker of compassion towards those the death lovers dream to snuff, A, B, C, or D, none of the above.

D.

I called them the Marx brothers, Grouchy, Harpy and Karl, and for good reason.

Personal experience and knowledge and observation cause my stomach to turn with Grouchy. Perhaps more of his background will ooze out, but I suspect the handlers of all three will cover up the worst as they allow us our choice of A, B, or C. Enough has been said about Harpy, as most of us know the background of this acolyte of Sol Alinsky, and radical to the core. But we are yet to scratch the surface of Karl, the firebrand of radical communism.

Visitors who are yet too young to comprehend the impact of communism, I implore you to learn, to discover the magnitude of this greatest force of human failure the world has known, this force which has mopped the floors with blood of over a hundred million victims, and will continue its grim path.

Years ago, I had the privilege to discuss with Dr. Fred Schwarz, author of "You can Trust a Communist (to be a Communist,)" and he explained how inexorable was the march of communists down their predesignated path. His point as seen here was that no matter how flowery they sound, they are simply exchanging masks because at the heart they remain the same.

Younger visitors, you have seen now the horrors couched in the Islam Nation, which superficially overshadows for now the dangers of communism, but this brother and ally is only more conspicuous these days, an allied threat with the core of Karl Marx. I would give the reward for the most deserving of candidates to Hussain, of The Obama Nation, that of Karl Marx.

The same elites have seen the threat of Alan Keyes, the one candidate still standing who stood for Terri, and they attack him without relent. As the Democrat Party left Ronald Reagan decades before, the Republican Party left Alan Keyes, and many others...

We who are pro-life have a tough road ahead as the death lovers will see a newfound support, but we have read the Book and we know how it ends. /rant..

A fight for truth against abortion in a thread from Coleus...

ALBUQUERQUE, NM, April 25, 2008 (LifeSiteNews.com) - "I want to save others from the same fate that I was almost put into," said 14-year-old Janelle Bushnell referring to a silent protest against abortion she has been punished for planning at her New Mexico middle school. Bushnell and a friend have been distributing flyers to fellow students at their James Monroe Middle School, encouraging them to wear red armbands and duct tape in protest of the scourge of abortion that has silenced the voices of so many of Bushnell's unborn peers.

Bushnell was inspired to protest abortion after learning that her biological mother was encouraged to abort her, before foster parents stepped in to take care of her. School officials argue that the planned protest disrupts the educational process because the protesting students will not be able to respond to questions when called upon in class. Bushnell's father argues that her daughter's protest could provide an unexpected, but valuable lesson to those in the school.......

Odd bedfellows in the choir all sing to the same sheet of music, the tune of "Fellow Travelers...". Thread by mondoreb with thanks for the ping to TheSarce.

“The Population Bomb” was the “Global Warming” of 1968.

“The battle to feed all of humanity is over. In the 1970s and 1980s hundreds of millions of people will starve to death in spite of any crash programs embarked upon now. At this late date nothing can prevent a substantial increase in the world death rate…” --Paul Ehrlich, The Population Bomb (1968)

Try this one on for an environmental doomsday scenario: a disaster of epic proportions is threatening Earth. It is man made in nature. In ten years–-ten years!-–life as we know it will be radically changed for the worst. And if mankind doesn’t do something right now, it will soon be too late....

Where there's a will...

If you wish to die by dehydration, be sure to say so.

............................

ALBANY — “Come to Georgia to die.”

While that may sound a bit morbid, it’s a phrase that Dougherty County Probate Court Judge Nancy Stephenson used Thursday as a way to communicate favorable probate laws in Georgia.

Documents such as a last will and testament — or “remote control,” she quipped — offer Georgians many opportunities for “staying in control of our lives” even after death.

Stephenson, a Tifton native who this fall will seek her fifth four-year term as probate judge, spoke to Albany Rotarians about probate law.

Her noon presentation was an appreciated display of dry humor interspersed with information that she said not enough people put to use.

“That was brilliant,” said one Rotarian as he shook Stephenson’s hand. Another added, “I think we should have charged a cover.”

More seriously, Stephenson said the most important thing a person can do is create a will. In Dougherty County, she said, too few do.

“Just having a will is critical,” she later said, “and a lot of people don’t and a lot of people are losing their property (to lawyers’ fees and taxes).”

Battles between heirs are common, she said, and can arise over tangibles that often are more symbolic than valuable.

Although it can’t be guaranteed that one’s will shall be carried out as written, the document does provide some safeguards.

A will, Stephenson said, should include information such as division of assets and also medical details.

“You have to specifically spell out that if you’re in a coma or a vegetative state, you want (a nutrition tube taken out),” she said, citing the Terri Shiavo case in which Schiavo’s husband and parents were at legal odds over her feeding tube.

It’s also important to designate an executor of the will, she said, and to ensure that the original document can be traced down.

“If your original will can’t be found at the time of your death,” Stephenson said, “there’s a legal presumption that you revoked it.”

Some of Stephenson’s top worst places to stash a will include “an ice cream container in the freezer” and “a safety deposit box that only you have access to.”

Stephenson added that “some people are having a lot of fun with their wills,” and cited cases in which a father willed his daughter money only if she left her husband and in which a man banned from smoking in the home left his widow cash only if she smoked five cigars a day. Others are opting to will assets to their heirs on condition that they graduate from school.

Stephenson suggests that people as young as 14 (as allowed by Georgia law) consult an attorney and create a will, and then have it witnessed correctly.

The judge said she doesn’t favor online programs that help users draft wills because the legal document “needs to be specific to our state.”

Judge helps bury trouble
