We had a guy lined up....Alan Levine. We were counting on him to run but he backed out in early March and left us all speechless.
And believe me, Delaware is PRIME for a Republican Governor. Dems and pubbies alike are disgusted with that joke of a Governor we have but there you have it.
Although I have a perfectly fine candidate but...well hell, I’m just not going to go there.
Christine O’Donnell, you might know her from Fox news and she ran against Tom Carper for Senator last time, is going to run against Joe Biden. Now no one will beat Joe Biden as he’s been Senator of this state since 1972. O’Donnell has some big financial backers however and she stands to gain from, if nothing else, increased exposure in that obviously she’s trying to break into the world of political punditry. She did damn well as an independent candidate against Carper and she’s good stuff.
But no.....I volunteered at pubbie headquarters and the Republican party in Delaware is so torn apart that it might as well not exist at all.
“But no.....I volunteered at pubbie headquarters and the Republican party in Delaware is so torn apart that it might as well not exist at all.”
You’ve hit on the bigger problem conservatives face. Conservatives would be better off if the GOP didn’t exist. The GOP is the proverbial 5 ton elephant lying in the living room. It’s stiff and stinks to high heaven, but for some reason a certain portion of conservatives insist that’s it’s merely stunned and will get up and start charging here anytime soon.
And as long as we debate whether or not the elephant has joined the ranks of the notso dearly departed, no one else can move in.
This is Chicago-style politics: for decades no Republican was a credible candidate in the city, so the GOP didn’t run credible candidates.
So what came first, the chicken or the, ah, chickens?
Castle is on our side? Coulda fooled me.
OK, it would be nice to have a candidate we think can win.
However, GOP is NOT taking a pass at this — there are two candidates running for the GOP slot. They just aren’t expected to win the election in November.
What’s worse. Qualified people not willing to run, or the rest of us dismissing all those who DO choose to run?
You can run a race against a dem candidate...and even win. You can’t run a race against a democrat AND the national media which will lie, cheat, steal and just plain make things up to plow you under. All our supposed conservative leaders are either pundits, selling books or making money in the private sector. Hopefully, the pendelum will swing back soon.
James Madison must have forgotten about Caesar Rodney’s ride, and the great Delaware regiment in the battle of Long Island, across Manhattan, then Trenton and Princeton where Colonel Haslet died. Meanwhile Governor Thomas Jefferson was sending the most poorly equipped men into the field that General Nathaniel Greene had ever seen.
Let’s get a freeper to run. I nominate YOU.
It’s valuable to have a name on the ballot even if they are underfunded underdog.
How can a party out of power be ‘torn apart’?!?
It makes no sense.
“Ask yourself the question: if you had the financial wherewithal to do so, would you run on the GOP ticket at this point?”
YES.
You never win if you dont get in the arena.
Hasn’t been a Pub state since before P. DuPont was guv. A long time ago, a good ole Pub Senator was there for ever but now Dems rule the waves there . Nove . is going to be a horror for many Pubs.
Solution...Republicans can move further south to Maryland and find a home there. Oh, wait...make that Virginia. Uh, no that won’t work anymore either. Try Cuba.
Hiya AB. Not surprising to find me posting on a Delaware thread, huh?
Lookit, there are NO currently elected Repub officials ready to run for Governor in this state. At least elected Repub officials that are NOT Rinos and give my county of Sussex Delaware credit, we don’t like RINOS and are true Conservatives.
That Terry Spence mentioned in the article linked, sheesh, he makes John McCain look to the right of Atilla the Hun.
There are a couple of elected guys who will be ready, or could run now but Delaware is a microcosm of the rest of America. We’ve got the northern liberals and the mighty city of Wilmington where the living get two votes and the dead are restricted to only one.
No Repub can win without Sussex county and Sussex county is sick of the north so we’re at a draw here.
Yes, there’s a solution but God forgive me for saying this but Republicans, by their very wing-tipped, polished-shoe nature, are not naturally creative or think out of the box. One thing Sussex county could do, and I’ve got a million of them, but one thing is a whole cadre of pubbies, REAL conservatives, from Sussex could go up to Kent county and work like a dog to get those RINOS UNELECTED!
We can do it. We threw out a really bad pub in Sussex and given the drive and leadership, we got another pub elected in his place even though the Dems and Biden threw everything they had at getting that seat.
But that’s some ingenuity, some leadership. Campaigning in another county? See, such a thought would never cross their minds.
And don’t say why don’t you do it, Pat? I do plenty. I’m the one that stood up great big and tall at the last Sussex county meeting and suggested that the pubbies in Sussex stop their whining when Nanny Minner puts out that budget and gives them two days to look it over. I told them....THE ENTIRE SUSSEX COUNTY REPUBLICAN WOMEN’S CLUB would gather together, order some pizzas, and WE’D ALL PORE OVER THAT BUDGET!
Well they were just dumbfounded. No one had ever thought of such a thing.
But I’m just one person and please don’t think that McCain’s national nomination hasn’t come with a bigger cost than the clothespins our noses require to possibley, MAYBE, vote for the guy.
To have as your national nominee a feller who has done nothing but spit on everything you believe takes some of the wind outta your sails, you think?
I’m not gonna sit up in that office, all smiling and chipper and being the happening face of the pubbie party in the one mighty bastion of conservatism known as Sussex county Delaware when I’ve got mealy-mouthed, even-tempered John McCain as my nominee.
I suspect this lack of a Governor candidate has a lot to do with McCain and expect more of this sort of thing across the fruited plains because to have as your candidate someone so lackluster that I’ve yet to hear from one even semi-enthusiastic supporter....there’s a cost to that. Way I figger after this upcoming election the Republican party will have been bitch-slapped big time. Because it doesn’t happen overnight.
Anyway, I’ve got a perfect candidate for Governor, an attractive women who was once the victim of a crime so heinous that for many months she had all of Delaware captivated with her story.
Someday I’ll tell you her story or find the link to my review of her book. She has enrolled in the Winning Women of Delaware series, a program designed to groom and train females to run for elected offices.
But I’ve no enthusiasm whatsoever....none.
Sorry.
Delaware is one victim of what I will kindly call the “John McCain” syndrome.
As for ME running for an office, ain’t gonna happen. But I would, with a smile on my face and dancing feet, be happy to be one helluva behind the scenes supporter. I could write speeches that would have Obama yo mama looking like a child. I have them standing in the aisles and my advertisements would pull in voters.
Maybe when the Republican party gets itself a national candidate I can be proud of.
Actually, Mike Protack would be a fine candidate. He should have been the nominee the last time around. However, the DE Republican party bosses muscled him out of the way. After being a delegate to the state party convention, I and many others, were pushed aside when we expressed our intention to support Protack. Judge (party hack) Lee got the nomination & then got his ass handed to him in the general election.
I have never given another dollar or hour of my time to the Delaware Republican organization.
I suggest FReepers take a look.
Not sure what his campaign website is.
Please.
PLEASE!
Mike Protek is owned lock, stock and barrel by the union.
And his socialized health care would make Hillary blanch.
Please.
Mike Protek has been running in every election since the dawn of man. Maybe he’ll win this time.
This man is a conservative like John McCain is a conservative like Terry Spence is a conservative.
Mike Protack....please do not lie to these people on Freerepublic who might not know any better.
Here’s my question to you Protack flacks....if the man was so damn great....WHY THE HELL DIDN’T HE WIN THE SEVENTY FIVE OTHER TIMES HE RAN?
No wait....once he got 4% of the vote. Impressive candidate that the pubbies should get behind, for sure.
BTW, as I write to myself, Mike Protack is notorious, NOTORIOUS, for adapting all sorts of fake names and posting on his own behalf. First clue, TWO posts in a row advocating his candidacy.
Heh.
Hey, Mike, how you doing? I’ll tell you what, you behave and stop trying to confuse these fine Freeper friends of mine and me and husband MIGHT vote for you.
Although you are no conservative and you know it.
Mike, you should sit down, shut up, stay out of trouble, and you just might win based on nothing else but plenty of folks will get confused, see your name as Republican, and pull the lever for you.
So don’t go pushing it, huh?
You're right...he might be a bit too conservative to carry Delaware.
Although I'm not from Delaware, I have met him and discussed issues at length with him. I know that he has spent a lot of time and effort working with the conservative base.
I don't agree with him on all issues (e.g., health care), but I do think that he has recognition of what matters to the typical Delaware voter. It's interesting to note that the lefties don't think his health care plan is socialist enough, while righties blast him for it.
Dang, but couldn’t a Republican go door to door in the state and register Republicans and get enough votes to win? What? They don’t care in that state? Heck it can’t be any bigger than my county.
