A senior adviser to John McCains presidential campaign was pressed on immigration issues in a conference call with bloggers Friday.
John Hawkins, of Rightwingnews.com and Hot Airs Ed Morrissey inquired about McCains support of an immigration enforcement act sponsored by Democratic Rep. Heath Shuler (D.-N.C.) and the influence McCains Hispanic Outreach Director Juan Hernandez had on McCain.
The blogger call was intended to promote McCains upcoming Service to America Tour but the campaign took questions on a broad range of issues.
Hawkins asked McCain adviser Steve Schmidt about allegations McCain was blocking Schulers legislation, titled the Secure America Through Verification and Enforcement Act. Earlier this week Shuler claimed progress on moving the bill through the House was going great until McCain blocked it.
Shuler, a former NFL player, says McCain did this by asking Republican members of the House not to sign a discharge petition to advance the bill in a series of phone calls.
Schmidt said, The comments with regard to the phone calls are false and makes you wonder if Heath Shuler had one too many encounters with a line backer in his previous profession and where he came up with that from.
Schmidt said he did not know if McCain was supportive of Shulers bill or not.
With regards to Hernandez, an open-borders advocate whose role in McCains campaign outrages conservatives concerned with border enforcement, Schmidt expressed some frustration to the continued questions about Hernandez.
John McCains position on immigration is very clear and this a question that gets asked at townhall appearances everyday in media appearances and has answered the question at least a thousand times before the New Hampshire primary, Schmidt said.
He explained, Any person who supports John McCains campaigns is a subscriber to John McCains views and even if those people have published things or said things in terms of policy that are contrary to John McCains policies that does not mean John McCain supports that persons view. That person is working in a campaign to help express John McCains view.
Schmidt added, There has been a lot of focus on staff members of campaigns that obscure the big issues.

Its amazing people even bother to ask what McCain would do.
He helped write the amnesty bill that people fought so hard to stop just last summer.
It would seem that would say it all about what McCain will do.
Don't listen to McCain's politically motivated promises of the moment: observe his actions. This is the man John McCain chose to be his "Hispanic Outreach Director." Hernandez is a certified traitor. Born in Dallas, he decided as an adult to become a dual-national Mexican citizen. His last "real" job was serving on Mexican President Vicente Fox's cabinet as his "American Reconquista Director." After that gig ran out, he worked (sic) for George Soros funded internationalist foundations, like the one that published his new book.
The "New American Pioneers" proclaimed in his book are the illegal alien invaders he urges to become settlers in the USA. Hernandez believes all Mexicans and Mexican-Americans in the USA should become dual citizens and consider themselves Mexicans first, "to the 8th generation." He believes there should be no border at all between Mexico and the USA, ever.
And this is the man McCain chose for his "Hispanic Outreach Director." In the past week McCain was asked about this choice, and he said he chose Hernandez because he agrees with his positions. If so, McCain is supporting invasion and reconquista.
Then I read our Constitution, Article 4 Section 4, where it says the federal government MUST protect the states from invasion, and I can only conclude one thing: John McCain is our new Benedict Arnold.

This is the only line in the story worth repeating....”That person is working in a campaign to help express John McCains view.
Exactly. Hello Azatlan!
Whole lotta babble, no answer.
Anybody actually believe MxCain is not going to immediately push for amnesty?
Anyone?
“McCains Hispanic Outreach Director Juan Hernandez”
Believes in a “Mexico First” policy.
This is my biggest problem with McCain.
Illegals should be rounded up and sent back to where they came from. If they want to be here, let them come legally.
I do not care to start business with someone who is initially breaking the law.
But that may not be something McCain is familiar with as he has had his brushes with illegalities.
If McCain pushes his amnesty b.s. then I will not support his old ragged butt. under any circumstances.
“Schmidt said he did not know if McCain was supportive of Shulers bill or not.”
Think I’ll go out on a limb here and guess, NOT.
When it comes to facts about McCain, people are choosing to forget them. Thats the way the GOP wants it.
Why let the truth get in the way of the “El Presidente the world awaited.”
“If McCain pushes his amnesty b.s. then I will not support his old ragged butt. under any circumstances.”
That’s ok, he’d already have your vote, THEN he’d push that one through congress.
Long list of things McCain must learn to renounce:
1. Giving up troops as POWs (yes, John McCain ended up on the wrong side on that one too)
2. Fascism
3. McCain-Feingold
3. Reach arounds with Democrats
4. Hernandez and the open borders stuff
5. Leftwing French politicians.
6. Global Warming fanaticism.
7. Leftwing German politicians
8. bunch of other stuff ~
McCain has to get right with the right or he may find out how popular the Devil can be when running against someone perceived to be braindead.
The next time John and Ed ask questions, perhaps one of them should be, “Senator McCain, what is your relationship with George Soros, and do you support the OSI?”
“This is my biggest problem with McCain.”
I agree with you on that PLUS the fact that McCain has said that he would CLOSE DOWN GITMO his first day in office and ship the inmates to LEAVENWORTH!!!
Duhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh...the A.C.L.U. would just LOVE THAT!
IMHO, the two issues the next president will deal with that will have the longest lasting impact on our country are appointing judges to the SCOTUS and the criminal invasion.
All three candidates are about even on immigration; we're screwed no matter who wins. McCain will (I hope) appoint more conservative judges.
However, again IMHO, the best, most immediate, way to stop our trek towards third world status is contained in my tag line.
Yea, when I post facts here there is usually someone popping their cork demanding I explain why I am trying to bring down the Republican Party.
They don't seem to understand the RNC and general Republican party are in no need of my help, they are committing suicide just fine all by themselves.
, Any person who supports John McCains campaigns is a subscriber to John McCains views
That line says it all.
He would refuse to answer with his usual brush off I will not dignify that question with an answer.
If you want to see the real Juan MxCain they got him on video totally dodging the amnesty issue. What a piece of lying trash!

“Anybody actually believe MxCain is not going to immediately push for amnesty?”
We just have to keep the pressure on.
He DID finally realize the error in his ways about SECURING THE BORDER. LOL
Deportation of illegals including the 300K incarcerated AFTER the wall/fences are constructed on BOTH borders and convincing him NOT to close down GITMO and ship the inmates to Leavenworth are the two issues he needs to change his mind on now!
