BAGHDAD Multi-National DivisionBaghdad Soldiers discovered two weapons caches during combat operations March 28.
Soldiers from 4th Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division, discovered a weapons cache in eastern Baghdad at approximately 2:30 p.m. The cache consisted of two explosively formed projectiles, four 120 mm artillery rounds and two 60 mm mortar rounds.
Soldiers seized the cache and detained three individuals suspected of harboring it. After discovering, the cache and detaining the three men, the Soldiers were attacked by terrorists using heavy small-arms fire from multiple locations. Soldiers returned fire and killed one terrorist. Two terrorists were injured and taken to a hospital by National Police, where they were treated and detained.
Soldiers from 4th BCT, 10th mtn. Div., acting on a tip from a local Iraqi, discovered another weapons cache at approximately 6 p.m. in eastern Baghdad. The cache consisted of two EFPs, 12 60mm mortar rounds, 12 rocket propelled grenades, 12 blocks of C-4 explosives, 32 casings for EFPs, 12 National Police uniforms, four body armor jackets, four sets of handcuffs and 1,100 PKC rounds.
Soldiers were attacked by terrorists using small-arms fire during the search of the location and did not suffer any injuries.
