Getting a FReeper to a Film Festival: Help Needed
Matthew Sheffield

Posted on 03/29/2008 2:21:51 PM PDT by RatherBiased.com

How many FReepers do we have living in Europe nowadays? If there are some, I need some help infiltrating the Cannes Film Festival in France.

Why shouldn't a conservative go to these events? That's what I say, and as the creator of NewsBusters, I figured I have the place to report anything interesting that happens there.

Trouble is though, the deadline for press applications is March 31. That's a couple of days away but the Cannes folks are decidedly old media and do not allow for submissions other than via snail mail.

That's a problem because I didn't find out about this until yesterday and unfortunately you can't express mail a package to France from the U.S. over the weekend.

I'm figuring the best way to resolve this is to have a FReeper who lives in Europe mail the documents in for me over the weekend so they can arrive end of business day.

If someone is willing to do this, I will email you all the files for my request and then pay you $200, after I receive the tracking information. Dead serious.

Anyone interested in taking me up on this? I'd love to be able to report from inside the belly of the media beast similarly to what I did here with Chris Matthews:

Uhhhh you wrestle in the mud with a pig, it just frustrates you, annoys the pig and you both get muddy.

I'm currently backpacking in Romania, although it's eastern europe and I don't know how fast mail moves from here to france. I'm not too familiar with the postal system, but if nobody else is available I can ask one of the locals here to mail it for you.

Here's another FR resource. In my experience, however, snail mail in all of Europe is incredibly slow, no matter who is mailing whom or what.

There is an Online express mail service.
You sends your docs by email to the secure server and the French Post print it, before sending it as if it was a classic express mail.
As for the deadline: the date written on the letter is the one of your order so that should do the trick ;)

In order to use this service you need a French adress but if you want you can use my account and I won’t charge you anything for that. The problem is that there is no English Version of the website and I’m not sure that American credit cards are accepted.

I’m gonna be available for the next 12 hours.
