Philly Mayor Would Quit Obama Church
ABC News ^ | March 29, 2008 | DAVID MUIR, URSULA FAHY and JOEL SIEGEL

Mayor Michael Nutter Tells ABC News He Would Have Quit Church if His Pastor Made Such Remarks.

Sen. Hillary Clinton's most prominent African-American supporter in Pennsylvania says that had he been a member of Sen. Barack Obama's church, he would have left because of the Rev. Jeremiah Wright's fiery and controversial sermons.

"I think there's no room for hate, and I could not sit and tolerate that kind of language, and especially over a very long period of time," said Philadelphia's newly elected mayor...

"If I were in my own church and heard my pastor saying some of those kinds of things," ...

Asked by Muir if he would he have quit Obama's church, Nutter said, "Absolutely."

Wright preached that the U.S brought on the 9/11 attacks with its own "terrorism." He also said the government "wants us to sing 'God Bless America'" but that it should be "God damn America" ...

Obama condemned the comments, but said he could not "disown" Wright.

Nutter voiced outrage that the Democratic Party is opposed to counting the Michigan and Florida primaries because both states scheduled the elections early in the primary season, against party rules. Clinton won those primaries

>Nutter met with both senators before deciding his endorsement.
He brushes aside those who say he did not back Obama because Obama endorsed someone else for mayor.

Uh huh...

The DUmmies have a racist, sexist, politicly-correct trainwreck on their hands...

Or to paraphrase the Rev. Wright, the identity politics chickens of the democrat party, have come home to roost.

My thoughts exactly: if Obama believed what he heard from Wright for 20 years then I question his judgement; if Obama supported (for 20 years) a preacher he didn’t believe in I question his integrity.

Of course the Obama campaign is not the only ones airbrushing their website due to the sudden scrutiny of Reverend Doctor Jeremiah A. Wright, Jr. and his flock.

As we noted back in January of 2007, the pastor’s church used to explain themselves thusly (via the Internet Wayback Machine):

It doesn't take more than a Sunday School education about Jesus to understand that if you leave church angrier than when you arrive, something is wrong.
The thought that Obama didn't stop going to Wright's church reveals his relationship with Christ wasn't as strong as his relationship with Wright's church.
Obama chose to follow a crowd of more then 5000 parishioners rather than what he claims to know from the Scriptures about Christ.
While I can forgive him, I certainly don't think he's smart enough to lead my country.
Obama needs some Sunday School 101

The Clintons will end up doing the dirty work that McCain won’t do.

More important than the Rev JWright issue, Obama has promised to raise capital gains taxes to 28%.

Of all the people to pick up King’s torch and run, it had to be Jesse Jackson.

Gotta be one of history’s worst “right place, right time” scenarios.

He single-handedly paved the way for the destruction of everything King worked for.

Obama has been unable or unwilling to defend America as a 20-year participating member of a congregation that regularly heard America slandered, cursed and vilified by its pastor - with the explicit condoning of this by the congregation.

Having knowledge of that, why would anyone in their right mind, and possessing basic DNA survival chromosomes, allow him to assume the Highest Office in the land - which would give him life and death power over every man and woman in our nation's armed forces and assuredly over everyone of us, our families, our descendants?

I still find it amazing when a group of people have power and relinquish everything because of skin color

Well, it's an amazing country, our United States of America. But it seems some blacks don't see it that way even though it's absolutely true. Americans have gotten away from seeing and seeking truth.

What really needed to be done is to remove the pastor from the church regarding his unChristian (and unAmerican) comments. If that didn’t happen, then you remove yourself from the church.

But, you ALWAYS start with the pastor.

Would normally agree but, in order to remove the Pastor, the membership has to agree and believe he is wrong. In these churches this thought and speech is felt by the membership to be entirely appropriate. And there are very, very many Black churches like this.

A form of Black madrassas right here in the U.S. I won't even get into the prisons as a place for Blacks to become disaffected Muslims. That's a whole other serious problem that brings Black and Muslim full circle.

I understand that and completely agree. Just shows that the problems aren’t going to be changed because the membership agreeds with what is being said.

Gives hate crimes a whole new meaning, doesn’t it.

Personally, those churches should loose their IRS tax status. If you hit them in the wallet, they will get rid of their pastors.

And, even more telling, is there is no indication that anyone in the church asked for Wright’s removal!!!
